A Word from the Principal
Welcome back, everyone! We’ve made a terrific start to 2025; it has been wonderful to have so many conversations with staff and students over the last week about holiday adventures, day-to-day business, plans for the future and just general chit-chat. The friendly and welcoming nature of our school makes it an easy place to return to after a break.
We welcomed our new staff on board and it’s clear they are becoming comfortable in our school very quickly. Mrs Kirstie Thomson joins us from Pheonix College as one of our Assistant Principals, with her key responsibility being Teaching and Learning, as well as teaching English . Mr Robert Muirhead is starting his teaching career with us after having completed his final pre-service teaching placement with us last year and he will teach in the area of Science. Ms Hannah Wig is also new to the profession and was keen to join our team after doing one of her pre-service sessions with us and she will teach in the areas of Physical Education, Psychology and Science. Mr Chris Turville also joins us with a wealth of experience and expertise in the area of Mathematics. We are fortunate to have our new staff members joining us and I feel confident they will enjoy working in our school, as we have a very supportive culture with amazing staff and students to work alongside in and out of the classrooms.
Our Year 7 students have made an enthusiastic start to their secondary education and are working very well in their groups. Thanks to Mrs Kirstie Thomson for putting together an effective program to provide a smooth transition for our new students by preparing them with practical skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in adapting to a new school setting at secondary level. We are really pleased with the way in which this has benefitted the students and also the way in which our Year 7 students have embraced the challenge.
At the other end of the school, we wish our Year 12 students all the very best in completing their final year of secondary education. It can be both an exciting and daunting time for them as they prepare for heading out into the world and life beyond school. They are a great group of young people and we will support them all the way!
We have worked hard to create a safe, supportive and productive learning culture at our school. We will continue with our emphasis on our three Focus Areas: Respectful Relationships, High Expectations and Excellence. Our staff always demonstrate and role model behaviours consistent with the Focus Areas and, as always, we will enjoy working with our students to support them in their learning and understanding of the actions and attitudes that match our ‘whole school’ values and beliefs.
We’re looking forward to a successful, productive and enjoyable 2025 school year!
