Swimming Carnival 2025
On Monday 10th of FEB, Lyndale kicked off our annual swimming carnival at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre, and it was a day full of fun and excitement! This year, we decided to shake things up by having our senior students dive into the action first, while the buses were busy shuttling the rest of the school to the venue.
We saw a bit of a dip in participation from senior swimmers, however it didn’t stop a good handful of students leading the way in their swimming events. Once our junior students arrived, the carnival really started up!! Excitement in the pool in both male and female swimming events. In fact, the carnival quickly had a buzz of students engaged in both swimming and land-based activities. Our VM students and staff ran a series of energetic games for our non-swimmers to join in on. These games weren't just about fun; they were also a chance for students to gain house points as they competed with enthusiasm and friendly rivalry. Badminton was a crowd favourite, with plenty of students showing off their impressive skills, while our O’s & X’s game became a good challenge that had students keen to be involved.
Our "Fashion on the Field" competition, where students showed off their style in true carnival spirit with our Sponge Bob Square Pants winner’s Jeremy Kao, Imogen Orme, Caitlin De Kauwe, Azaria Havilitama and Larni Milne taking the win.
As the day started to wrap, everyone was keen to find out the final moments to see if the reigning champions, Gladstone, could maintain their impressive swimming carnival winning streak…. In an unexpected twist, Halton rose to the challenge and claimed the first-place ! A great day to celebrate!
Thanks to all the staff members who made this event possible for our students! Your hard work behind the scenes and on the day ensured everything ran smoothly, giving us another great day to remember.
I've attached our swimming champions for 2025, these students accumulated the highest house point in swimming events all day! Well done everyone!
Division swimming coming up - Thursday 6th March.
Good luck to our team of swimmers.
Intermediate Interschool Sport
Girls Volleyball:
The Lyndale Volleyball girls competed in a fast-paced tournament against seven other schools. They had a strong start, defeating Noble Park 40-23 and Sirius College 43-33, showcasing great teamwork and skill. Unfortunately, they faced a tough challenge against Keysborough Banksia, where they were narrowly defeated 31-40.
Despite the setback, the team bounced back in the playoff for 3rd place, where they dominated Dandenong with a 43-30 win, securing a well-earned 3rd place finish. Overall, it was a strong performance from Lyndale, showing resilience and determination throughout the day! Thanks to Ms Fakos for training up the team and taking them out!
Boys Volleyball:
The intermediate boys had an awesome hit-out for the interschool sports volleyball. The boys started with a double set win against Noble Park and followed it up with a narrow come from behind victory against Sirius. After that the had to verse a powerful Keysborough team where the boys narrowly lost both sets by less than 5 points. Finishing second in the pool matches they had to verse the other Keysborough team who were also extremely strong. Playing for 3rd the boys lost the first set 14-20, however they pulled through and won the next two sets 20-18 & 15-13 to come from behind and upset Dandenong Secondary to steal third place overall. Excellent work boys!!!! Thanks to Taj for training up the boys and taking them out for sport!
Boys Cricket:
The Intermediate Boys cricket team went out for a sunny and clear day on Thursday last week, ready for a great day of cricket. We were greeted by an absent opponent instead of an opening match, as our first opponent were too intimidated and never arrived! We took advantage of the extra hour or so of training and practice, and it paid off as we defeated Noble Park comprehensively. Dandenong was a tough opponent and after a slow start, we were able to get a few runs on the board and put up a competitive score. A few early wickets gave the Lyndale boys some hope of a victory, but Dandenong fought back to win with 2 overs to spare. Well done to all the boys who played, and a special shout out to Jack Ryan for two innings of 50+ runs retired not out. Thanks to Mr. Neilson for training up the boys and taking them out for sport!
Senior Sport
Cricket:
On Thursday the 13th of February the Senior boys cricket team braved the heat and headed out the Greaves Reserve to take on Seda and Keysborough College. We won the first toss and sent Seda out to Bowl. Gurasees Singh and Aakhilesh Patil out on a fantastic opening stand putting up 80 runs in the first 7 overs of a shortened 8 over game. The boys were brave in the field and tried their best but unfortunately were not strong enough as SEDA chased the runs in the 7th over.
Although a sour result in the second game as well, the day was a success with all the boys getting a taste of all batting, bowling and fielding. Thanks to Mr. Palleshi
Volleyball Boys:
The Senior Boys Volleyball played a total of 5 games coming away from the day in 3rd Place.
Their first 2 games against Noble Park and Keysborough proved to be tough but against Carwatha and Minaret the boys lifted their game to a different level to come away with wins.
They got into the 3rd place final against Dandenong and finished the day strongly beating them.
A great day out. Well done boys. Thanks, Mr. PK, for training them up and taking them out for sport!
Volleyball Girls:
The senior girls had a great hit out for the senior Volleyball interschool sports competition. After a couple losses against some very experienced oppositions, the girls went down in a nail biter against Minaret. By the end only one point would’ve secured them the victory for the team, but we ran out of time. Although finishing the day 0-4 the girls did an awesome job in represented the school. Plaj was awesome as both captain and also coach due to late substitute coach Taj needing a deep refresher on the rules and how to play. Awesome work girls!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Mr Shane for training them up and TAJ for taking them out to sport.
