Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning
We are thrilled with the dedication and hard work that so many of our students are demonstrating at the start of this year. As parents and carers, you play a vital role in your child’s education. You can stay informed about their progress by checking lesson plans on Compass.
If you have any concerns or questions, please email your child’s teachers through Compass or call the school on (03) 9795 2366.
Study Support Group (also known as Homework Club)
A reminder that Study Group has commenced on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm. ALL students are welcome, and we were thrilled to see over 40 students attend this week.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to work with our university tutors, who are knowledgeable in a variety of subjects and eager to assist.
Bring your work, laptop, and questions, and join us in Room S6!
iRock
As many of you know, Lyndale Secondary College is partnering with iRock to provide instrumental music lessons for our students. Initially, we are offering lessons to all Year 7 students, with plans to expand to other year levels throughout the year.
We are fortunate to have iRock working with us, and we would like to acknowledge their efforts in repairing instruments, creating engaging classroom environments, organising equipment, and teaching our Year 7 students.
Below is some information about Jerry Trzeciak, the founder of iRock. If you would like to learn more, visit their website: iRock Music School.
Jerry Trzeciak has over 25 years’ experience as a musician, classroom music and instrumental music teacher. He has a Bachelor of Performing Arts / Music (Honours), Bachelor of Teaching, a Masters in School Leadership and has taught every year level from Foundation to Year 12. In 2018, Jerry took what was operating as a hobby project and began to make steps forward to transform his music school into a resource that could be used by music students and teachers all over the world.
He developed and launched the unique and internationally recognised 1234 iROCK Method which was presented at the 2018 Modern Band Summit run by Little Kids Rock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Since then he has been busy building a loyal tribe of iROCK followers and supporters as opportunities for the school continue to grow.
Performing Arts
Another exciting addition to our Performing Arts curriculum is the introduction of Drama for our Year 7 students, alongside the existing Year 8 classes.
Drama supports student learning by enhancing communication skills, building confidence, and fostering creativity and imagination. It makes subjects such as history, literature, and social studies more engaging by bringing concepts to life. Additionally, drama encourages critical thinking and problem-solving, as acting and improvisation require quick thinking and adaptability. It also provides a safe space for self-expression, making education more interactive and enjoyable for all.
Please see the photos below of one of our Year 8 classes participating in their Drama lesson:
Lyndale Secondary College Staff 2025
Each newsletter edition this year will introduce different members of our staff, especially the new staff we have recruited for 2025.
In this edition, we introduce two of our tutors—both former Lyndale students—who are making a significant impact by supporting student learning through various interventions and Study Group sessions.
Meet some of our staff working at Lyndale in 2025:
My name is Priyanka Suja Rani, and I am currently in my third year of Criminology and I.T (majoring in cybersecurity) at Monash University. On the completion of VCE at Lyndale Secondary College, I had done Further Mathematics and Mathematical Methods, as well as acquired a 40 in English. Completing high school at Lyndale also helped me further my passion for music, especially thanks to the dedication of the teachers. My hobbies include singing, dancing, and making art. I enjoy tutoring at Lyndale as it is very rewarding to see how kids can grow and understand tricky concepts with your help. The Tutoring initiative has provided invaluable lessons and experiences for students as well as tutors, and I am grateful to be a part of it.
Hi, I'm Ciya! I'm currently studying for a Bachelor of Law and PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) at Monash University. My love for the humanities and English subjects helped me to achieve 40+ study scores in VCE English, Legal Studies and History Revolutions during my time at Lyndale and inspired me to pursue this degree. I hope to create a positive change in our communities by working in the government or legal field when I graduate, but my time as a Literacy Tutor at Lyndale has taught me that change begins in our classrooms! It's been incredible to see the progress of our students in the TLI program and I especially enjoy seeing their faces light up when they get an answer correct or begin to understand a concept.
Year 12 VCE VM Students Immerse Themselves in Art and Commerce in CBD Excursion
On February 20th, 2025, our Year 12 VCE VM students embarked on an enriching excursion to the heart of Melbourne's CBD, blending cultural exploration with practical mathematical application. The day was designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and the Queen Victoria Market.
The day began at Federation Square’s NGV building. At the gallery, students delved into the world of First Nations artwork, focusing on the use of shapes, materials, and techniques to convey cultural narratives. They were required to analyse and reflect on selected artworks, deepening their understanding of First Nations art and its significance.
Following a productive morning at the NGV, students enjoyed a lunch break at Melbourne Central before making their way to the iconic Queen Victoria Market. Here, the focus shifted to practical mathematics. Students applied their knowledge of measurement, estimation, and calculation to explore the market's dimensions and the quantities of goods on display.
A highlight of the market visit was the "Funny, Freaky, and Fabulous Finds" activity, where students selected unique items and documented their descriptions, prices, dimensions, weights, volumes, and symmetry. This activity offered a fun and engaging way to apply mathematical concepts in a real-world setting.
The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for our VCE VM students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, fostering both cultural appreciation and practical skills. The students demonstrated excellent behaviour and engagement, making the excursion a resounding success.

Celebrating the Year of the Snake with Chinese Calligraphy
The start of Term 1 in 2025 also marked the beginning of the Year of the Snake in Chinese lunar calendar. Our Year 8 students embraced the spirit of the New Year by practicing traditional Chinese calligraphy and writing mini Spring Festival couplets (春联). Using brushes, they carefully crafted auspicious phrases wishing for happiness, success, and good fortune in the new year.
Their beautifully written couplets were proudly displayed around the classroom, adding a festive touch to our learning space. This hands-on experience allowed students to appreciate the art of calligraphy while learning about the cultural significance of this tradition.
Happy Lunar New Year! 新年快乐!
Kind regards,
Chenfei Bian
