Supporting students to achieve academically...

What Have We Been Learning?

Wow - what a great first two weeks back!

Students in all classes have been participating in our Learning to Learn units. These cover the key routines, procedures and relationships that classes need in order to allow learning to thrive.

Students have also prepared for their academic learning to begin next week. Every child in Years 1 - 6 has undertaken a reading assessment to see where they are at after the holiday period. Many of our Prep children have had their reading assessment, with others to complete theirs in the coming weeks. Some year levels have also completed a maths assessment. These tests will allow staff to adjust our curriculum to each child's needs.

Next week, we begin our formal academic program. We are looking forward to students being immersed in the worlds of literature, science, humanities, mathematics and more. Throughout the year you will see snapshots of learning in each year level on our Class Celebrations page.

Content Team

At SMPS, we pride ourselves on the way we are developing a consistent, sequential and spiralled curriculum. This year we have a team of staff involved in the writing of lessons to ensure they are all of the highest quality. We do not want your children exposed to anything less than the best.

  • Ciona (Year 3A teacher) is developing our personal and social capabilities curriculum.
  • Nadeeka (Year 1A teacher) is overseeing our maths curriculum.
  • Cathy (Year 5B teacher) is developing novel study units for the upper primary school.
  • Maddy (Learning Specialist - Curriculum and Learning) is developing our Literacy and English curriculum. She is also leading this team and overseeing all curriculum content.

To enable this work to occur, Miss Lorna will be covering these classes on some days in Semester 1. Lorna has already formed wonderful partnerships with these teachers and is maintaining the high standards set in each grade. We are very excited to have more of our curriculum polished by these talented staff.
