Art and Design Awards Night
On the 22nd of November our school celebrated the annual Art and Design Awards night sponsored by Dr. Ken Marshall, who began sponsoring this event 24 years ago with the intent of giving every student in BMGS an opportunity to showcase their creativity and passion for art and design. Although unfortunately Dr. Marshall was unable to attend the awards in person, his presence was greatly felt by his long-term colleague Jo Munro, who attended on his behalf. We continue to extend our thanks to Dr Marshall for this ongoing gift of inspiration to the school.
Thanks to both Dr Marshall’s and Derivan's sponsorship, we were privileged to award a total of 62 prizes to students from 7-11, including the people’s choice award to Freya Knussen, Year 11, for her Young Archibald winning drawing ‘There’s more to me’.
We would also like to once again thank the art and design teachers, especially Mrs Siorokos and Mr Olmos, as well as the maintenance and IT teams, who’s behind the scenes effort made the night possible.
Congratulations to all attendees and award recipients for making this night a resounding success.
There's more to me
My friend Huckel is shown here in her teenage years with her signature flaming hair cascading down around her, morphing into a ribbon that binds her body. The Raven flying above typing her symbolises intelligence and knowledge, an attribute she is known for above her other qualities that are often overlooked. The Blue Jay and Sparrow represent these qualities as symbols of love, loyalty, confidence and curiosity. These birds frantically try to unravel her allowing her to be truly seen. The Raven, Blue Jay and Sparrow play as aspects of self that are within us all.
