From the Head of Drama
As the year draws to a close, I am reflecting on the year we just had. Here are a few things to note as we approach the end of the year.
‘Yellow’ BMGS 7-9 Short Film Festival
On Thursday 28/11, we held the inaugural BMGS Short Film Festival. Congratulations to all of our student film makers. The evening really highlighted for me the need to give our young people multiple avenues to tell their stories. Performing live on stage is not for everyone, so I was pleased to see the opportunities our film festival gave to the many diverse voices in our student population.
A big thank you to our wonderful musicians who performed on the night; Simeon Gee and The Junior Rock Band.
A big thank you to the staff, Miss Coote and Dr Eliza Crespis (our special guest judge)
A big thank you also to our sponsors for the event; United Cinemas –The Edge @ Katoomba and Andrew Gelao from KFM Media.
Thank you to Laura and the BMGS P&F for their wonderful support providing delicious snacks.
Congratulations to the winning film - ‘Couch Critics’ directed by Josh McLean (Year 8) and the film’s cast; Charlotte Scott, Wilberforce Schwarz, Luca Coleman and Neva Stockwell. Josh was given the major prize on the night- work experience with KFM Media and I thank them again for their generosity and support of our young artists.
Our tickets sale proceeds of $435.00 will be donated in full to the NSW Cancer Council.
Thank you to all the parents and community members for supporting this event.
HSC Success
Congratulations again to our 3 HSC Drama students nominated for inclusion in Onstage; Ivy Downes, Critical Analysis- Portfolio of Theatre Criticism, Sienna Coleman and Leyna Hawkes for Costume Design.
Our Stories our Syllabus
The release of the draft Stage 6 Syllabus for both Drama and Music has been met with collective political action by academics, teachers and artists across the state. A representation to the Minister for Education and Early Learning has been prepared by our own local MP, Trish Doyle on my behalf. If you would like more information about these proposed changes to opportunities for students studying any of the Creative and performing Arts from 2028, please go to this link.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
