ENPS School News

Introducing David Foley and Tandy Johnson

Principal News - Term 4 Week 9

Hi everyone

It was pleasing to see the Year 5 Naplan results that were posted in the media today. The school leads the local area across all Naplan areas.  Well done to our students and teachers.

We start December on a high after completing a successful Prep transition program for Kinder kids for 2024.  The final camp for the year ends Friday 6th December. The year 3 Camp was held at Camp ADANAC in Yarra Junction. It is a huge organisational process to make our outdoor education program operate smoothly. Our experienced staff and great planning has been valuable in ensuring everyone has a memorable experience. We are very grateful to the parent helpers who attended and worked very hard to contribute to the students’ experience. The children loved the opportunity to go on camp and it remains a highlight of the school year for students.

Year 3 + 4 swimming program commences Monday 2th December for seven sessions. We are able to offer this program due to a DET funding grant.

Next Friday we are holding our annual awards assembly. We will be starting at 2:40 on the court. There will be extraordinary awards presented to students. You will be contacted if your child is receiving an award so that you can attend.

2025 Planning: The DoE is shifting a 5 module relocatable from the top area along Lower road during the January break. The DOE is removing older buildings from schools. This decision provides the opportunity to gain a larger playground space for our year 5 and 6 students. It is exciting to regain a full size basketball court.

Our leadership team for 2025 includes the same staff: Tandy Johnson and David Foley sharing Principal roles and Stephen Hayes and Shelley Gunn sharing Assistant Principal roles. Cara Grant and Michelle Lucas continue to coordinate and lead our Curriculum Development and programs.  Janine Tucker continues in the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing coordinator.  The overall plan provides strong leadership and depth and is very exciting for the school and our leadership and middle managers.

Here is the latest update of classrooms for 2025:  We will operate 21 classes and we are very pleased to offer the following structure. Today, the mix of students per class and all year levels are identified below. Class grouping and class teachers:

Preps will have 18/19 students per class x 3 classes with Josh Darling, Kate Doherty, Melissa Osman and Hayley Reynolds

Year 1 will have 20/21 students per class x 3 classes with Nadia Bovalino, Alicia Scott, Lisa Smith, Kate Hocking and Charlotte Hay

Year 2 will have 24 students per class x 3 classes with Nicole Ryan, Belinda Smith, Kate Petty, Jess Rogers and Nikki Jones

Year 3 + 4 will have 22/23 students per class x 6 classes with Kristy Ayres, Alicia Moore, Michelle Lucas, Janine Tucker, Matthew Georges, Ari Levacic, Natasha Soundy and Claire Amsellem

Year 5 + 6 will have 25 students per class x 6 classes with Celine D’Avoiine, Jarrod Wait, Cara Grant, Rachel Hanslow-Sells, Michael Farrell and Sarah Banbury

Visual Arts: Wendy Hayes and Ellen Canny

Performing Arts: Kate Hocking and Chrissy Jedrys

Our student placement process for classes has been determined. In each class we have a mix of student attributes that include academic, social and emotional considerations across each level to form even groups. We had some transition sessions earlier this week and students met their teachers and peers for 2025.

Student reports are being finalised and will be shared with families next Friday

Other great initiatives on offer will include the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLi). Our school has received funding to assign a part-time teacher to lead programs tutoring students who need assistance in core curriculum.

Student Excellence program. This is a highly valued initiative that is funded for 2025. Student extension in literacy and numeracy is provided for middle and senior years students.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator initiative has enabled our school to support teachers and students. With continuing funding from DoE we have reappointed Janine Tucker to coordinate a range of specific initiatives from the mindfulness centre. The program and support Janine provides for staff and students is excellent.

Additional Services for 2025:  We have  a talented group of staff working to offer a comprehensive and integrated support model.  This team support our class teachers and includes Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapist, Disability Inclusion manager and a co-ordinator, Visiting Teacher Service staff for hearing and vision, Support and Extension teachers Integration Aides.

Our Instrumental Music program continues for 2025 with Adam Roach’ Music School. Adam Roach has been teaching guitar and drums at ENPS for 22 years and has employed staff to lead drums, guitar, keyboard and singing in small group configurations. This is an exciting opportunity to introduce your child to learning a musical instrument at school.  The program will be open to all year levels.
