Holy Cross Happenings

The Superhero in You
Last Friday the children from Year Prep, One and Two participated in an incursion titled, 'The Superhero in You'.
Jordie and Jacob led the children through games, activities and discussions about our inner personal strengths. Kindness, deep thinking, fairness, helpfulness, giving things a go, listening and collaborating were some of the qualities and traits explored.
"I thought about my school superpowers. I thought about including others. I would say 'would you like to play with us?'....." Zoey Yr 2
The children will continue to explore these strengths within themselves and others during Discovery and in class throughout the term.

Schools Out
Thank you to the School's Out Team for providing breakfast for us on Tuesday!
Holy Cross Swimming Trials
Yesterday’s Swimming Trials were a fantastic display of effort and school spirit. Despite the warm and windy weather, our children gave their best in every race, with many bravely taking on events outside their comfort zones. They listened to advice from our stroke judge and worked hard to apply the tips given.
To help keep cool, children enjoyed splashing under the sprinkler on the grassed area beside the pool between events. Their encouragement and support for one another were wonderful to see.
A huge thank you to our staff and parent helpers, whose efforts in timing, ushering, record-keeping, supervising and first aid made the day possible. Special thanks to Casey Gaunt for her outstanding organisation, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable event for all. Congratulations to all our swimmers!
I CAN Imagination Club – Building Connections & Creativity!
This week, we were excited to welcome back Rachael and Bec for the start of the I CAN Network Program. This wonderful initiative supports a small group of our students in developing confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.
The first session focused on introductions and teamwork, laying the foundation for strong relationships within the group. Over the first two weeks, students explore the kind of positive, supportive environment they want to create in I CAN, with teamwork, cooperation, and communication becoming key themes throughout the program.
A highlight of the session was the epic Paper Tower Challenge! Working in teams, students were tasked with building the tallest tower using only paper and tape. The results were as creative as they were impressive, one tower was tall enough to launch rockets from, another showcased a bold cubist design, and one was even described as “Hanging Rock with a waterfall coming down”!
It was fantastic to see the students collaborating, sharing ideas, and encouraging one another. We look forward to seeing their creativity and teamwork continue to grow throughout the program!

Congratulations to Jameson & Finnan – Australian Futsal Team Selection!
We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of Jameson and Finnan Howley, who have been selected to represent Australia in international futsal competitions!
After competing for Victoria in the National Futsal Championships in Sydney this January, both boys impressed national selectors with their performances. As a result, they have been invited to join the Australian Futsal Teams in their respective age groups, an outstanding achievement!
- Finnan is one of only 16 players selected from across the country and will travel to Spain in June/July 2025 to represent Australia in the U10 VSPORT International Cup.
- Jameson is one of 30 players chosen and will head to the Philippines in November 2025 to compete in the U11 International Cup.
This is an incredible opportunity, and we are so proud of their dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. Congratulations, Jameson and Finnan, we can’t wait to follow your journey on the international stage!
CFA
A huge congratulations to Nick Dickson in Year 6 for competing with the CFA Running Team last Saturday. His team won the Western District event, marking the first time Gisborne has claimed victory since 1970!
Nick competed in the Under 17 category alongside his older brother Zac. Remarkably, this was only his first competition since joining in November!
The boys are now gearing up for the State competition on March 22nd and 23rd in Mooroopna.
We wish them all the best of luck!
Cobb and Co
You never know what you might see at Holy Cross! This week, the Jones family arrived at school with a carriage! The children and families were thrilled to see it and had so many questions about it. It was a wonderful surprise that brought smiles to everyone!
