MATHS

WELCOME TO NEW STAFF AND STUDENTS

A very big welcome, or welcome back to all for 2025. Firstly, a very big congratulations on the outstanding results achieved by our Year 12 cohort last year. We are extremely proud of the hard work and determination they showed both in mathematics and generally. This reflects the great partnerships built between students and teachers across six years at McKinnon.

We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence with all the continuing and new students and staff in the busy and exciting year to come. McKinnon continues to grow, and the numbers need to add up so we are very pleased to welcome new staff to the mathematics key learning area who bring with them a fantastic wealth of knowledge, experience, and energy and also various other skills that you may find surprising in their bios below.

Key Learning Area Manager - Mathematics

Bradley Keats

I'm Brad and I am teaching Science and Mathematics at McKinnon Secondary College from 2025. I am teaching students for Year 8 Mathematics, Year 8 Science, and Year 9 Science. I majored in Microbiology and have a particular interest in viruses and bacteria. I also have a passion for Chemistry ... Anything that isn't Physics!

A fun fact about me is that I hold my National B Badge in Netball Umpiring, allowing me to umpire up to the state level.

Steve Kuruc

I have been teaching since 1990 (yes... last century) and have worked across Primary and Secondary education both in Australia and overseas (China).

In a past life I was fortunate enough to 'teach' driving skills at the iconic Sandown Racetrack and was also allowed to 'test' vehicles too - pity I did not make it onto the set of Top Gear!

As a teacher, I have high standards and believe in 'reading the room', engaging in regular dialogue with my students, as well as engaging in weekly formative assessments to learn more about my classroom cohorts.

I am excited about working at McKinnon and look forward to meeting all my classes soon.

Elizabeth McConville

I started at McKinnon in term 4, 2024 and I love teaching and come into work every day ready to bring enthusiasm and excitement to every lesson. I believe in high standards and authentic relationships. McKinnon is such a brilliant place to work and a wonderful place to be a student.

I have two small children - my daughter started prep this week. Our whole family love the beach - we love to surf, swim, play and enjoy finding creatures in rock pools. We have a French bulldog named Manu who snores and snorts. Fun fact: My sister in law is the coach of the AFLW Western Bulldogs.

I worked in primary schools for almost a decade before joining the secondary college team and have enjoyed being an Acting Assistant Principal and a Numeracy Specialist.

I am really looking forward to 2025 and all the opportunities for greatness it will bring.

I look forward to meeting you and the McKinnon school community.

Sarah McIlvaine

Hello, I'm Sarah and I am truly delighted to begin teaching Year 8 Science, Year 9 Science and Year 8 Maths at McKinnon this year! I studied in California and Perth, before here in Melbourne. I have a keen interest in marine biology and interculturalism.

A few fun facts about me: I speak Italian, I taught high school in Thailand for a year, and in my spare time I enjoy indoor rock climbing and scuba diving. Looking forward to getting to know you all better as the year goes ahead.

Divya Nellivila

My name is Divya, and I’m excited to join the Math team this year. I’ve been teaching for the past two years, specializing in Digital Technology and Food Technology for Years 7-10. Before that, I worked as a software engineer for 2.5 years and hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering and a Masters of Education.

I’ve always believed that DigiTech is just applied Math in disguise - whether it’s algorithms, logic, or problem-solving, the two go hand in hand. My goal is to help students not only develop strong mathematical skills but also become responsible and respectful individuals.

A fun fact about me: I’m a kickboxing green belt! So, whether it’s tackling math problems or perfecting a spinning hook kick, I know the value of discipline, strategy, and perseverance.

Felicia Williams

Firstly, the most obvious thing you might know about me is I am a maths teacher and looking forward to working at McKinnon Secondary College this year. A few other things about me. I have worked for some time as a teacher at a few schools, teaching Maths, PE, and Health and have taught all year levels.  I love summer and watching cricket. I can talk about cricket with anyone, anytime (well maybe not in class when students are working).

In a previous life I worked as a structural engineer and have a passion for buildings. I like watching things being built in my neighbourhood and usually have a DIY project on the go.  I often stop and look at bridges and other structures and work out how they are standing up.
