Hello from our students and teachers

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Hello from Grade 1/2S

Hello wonderful families and carers. As we near the end of the term, we wanted to share our classroom. There’s so much to celebrate and look forward to as we head into the final week!

Literacy -

This month, we have been focusing on enhancing reading and writing skills. In Reading, students have been exploring paired fluency - where we are reading to a buddy to help improve how we read aloud! We’ve been discussing character development, plot structure, and identifying key themes in persuasion! It’s been wonderful to see our students so engaged in discussions and reading with increasing confidence!

In Writing, students have worked on creative storytelling and persuasive writing.  I hope you have been able to see the students advertisements as they have amused and given thought to those that students have seen them already.

They are becoming more skilled at structuring their ideas clearly and using descriptive language. We encourage continued practice at home, whether it's reading together or helping with journaling and story-writing especially in the holidays to keep their skills at their best!

Numeracy

Our numeracy lessons have been focused on strengthening our students' mathematical understanding. We’ve been practising problem-solving strategies, working with patterns and place value and measurement. Students have looked at patterns around us, including Christmas lights. We have looked at how the patterns increase and decrease with the use of music that makes the patterns we see.

This week we explored Transition Day, which was on the 10th of December. This day allows students to get a glimpse of the next school year and get familiar with their new routines and teachers. It’s a wonderful opportunity to ease any anxieties about the transition, and we’re sure the students enjoyed the day! The students spoke about their teachers for next year positively and are looking forward to next year.

To end our part of the newsletter please look at some of our pictures from games we have played this term and some of our gardening fun.
