Wells Assembly

Monday 1 December 

Our final Wells Assembly for our Kindergarten to Year 2 students will take place on Monday 1 December in The Farrall Centre and will also commence at 2.15pm. At this Assembly, the Kindergarten and Year 2 students will be singing and we will farewell our Year 2 students as they move up to Year 3 and join the Walpole cohort. We welcome members of our community to attend. Please remember that due to privacy concerns and to respect the photo permission choices of other families we ask you to refrain from taking photos and videos during assemblies.

Summer Vacation Care Program

Please find our upcoming OSHC Vacation Care Program here. Running from Friday 12 December to Tuesday 23 December 2025 inclusive, and again from 12 to 30 January 2026. Bookings will be processed via XAP Smile.  Instructions on how to make bookings have been sent to all families. Please note that bookings close at 6.00pm on Friday 5 December. Kinder - Year 2 Sports Day 

Friday 28 November

The Kinder to Year 2 Sports Day will be held on Friday 28 November on the school's bottom green from 12.00pm - 1.30pm. Parents and families are welcome to attend. Children are to wear their sports uniform and ensure they have their hat and a water bottle for the event. A program will be emailed to parents. Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge

Friday 28 November

Year 5 students participating in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge on Friday 28 November at Bellerive Beach will travel by bus to and from the venue departing school at 10.40am and returning at 1.45pm. Any enquiries please contact Lisa Di Venuto.

Moving On Day and Year 7 Orientation Day

Monday 1 December

 

Kindergarten to Year 5:

Moving On Day is on Monday 1 December. The purpose of this day is to establish positive relationships between next year’s teachers and classmates before the long holiday. It is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce our new students into the school. Students will spend time with their teacher for next year and get to know their new classmates. 

 

Families will receive a note at the end of this day communicating their child/children’s classroom teacher for 2026. We have taken great care to ensure that the 2026 class groups support all the children’s best interests and learning needs. We value your support in making this a positive transition.

 

Year 6 Students:

For Year 6 students, Year 7 Orientation Session 1 will also be held on Monday 1 December from 8.45am until 3.00pm. Students are not expected to wear school uniform on this day, however, they should wear casual clothes that are suitable for some easy and fun physical activities. Year 6 students do not come to the Primary School on this day but will meet in the Middle School Foyer with other new Year 7 students between 8.45am and 9.00am. Students should bring their own lunch and a drink bottle on this day.  Please note that pick-up at the end of the day for students being collected by car is in Boa Vista Road.

Year 2 Parents’ Tour of Walpole

Tuesday 2 December

On Tuesday 2 December, current Year 2 parents are invited for an informal tour of Walpole. The Year 2 children will take you on a tour between 8.45am and 9.30am. Please go to the Year 2 classroom first so that your child’s attendance can be recorded. You are not expected to stay for the entire duration, it is an opportunity for you to become familiar with the upcoming change of location and support your child during this exciting time. Please contact Deputy Head (Year 2 - 6) Wendy Crow if you have any further questions about learning in Year 3. 

Year 1 Outdoor Education Excursion - Fossil Cove & Tinderbox

Tuesday 2 December

On Tuesday 2 December, Year 1 will be embarking upon a rescheduled coastal day to Fossil Cove and Tinderbox Reserve. The students will leave at 11.00am and return to school at 3.00pm with their classroom teachers and Emily Ardas, Outdoor Education teacher. Students with the opportunity to search for, identify, ask questions and think about what fossils can tell us about the past. 

 

Students are required to wear their sports uniform and sturdy shoes for walking in. They are also to bring a backpack containing: morning tea and lunch, rain jacket, water bottle, a warm jumper, sun hat and a change of socks. Please ensure your child’s Operoo profiles are up to date and sunscreen is applied before they arrive at school.

Kinder, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2  - Bravehearts Visit 

Wednesday 3 December

On Wednesday 3 December the Bravehearts Education Team will be coming in to present  ‘Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show’ to Kinder, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students in Frank Wells Hall at 9.30am (Kinder and Prep) and 10.15am (Years 1 and 2). Bravehearts teach children personal safety in an age appropriate, fun and engaging fashion and provide students, parents, teachers, carers and the general community with specialised child sexual assault awareness and education.  

Prep Outdoor Education Excursion - Roches Beach

Wednesday 3 December

On Wednesday 3 December Prep students will be participating in an Outdoor Education experience at Roches Beach with their class teachers and Outdoor Education Teacher, Emily Ardas. Students will participate in some beach exploration. Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a sunhat and waterproof raincoat. They should bring a big lunch,  snacks and a full water bottle for the day. We will depart school at 10.45am and return by 2.20pm. Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Year 5 Art Exhibition

Thursday 4 December

Year 5 students have been inquiring into 'How we express ourselves' under the central idea, 'Creative thinking unlocks a world of possibilities.' We have explored how and why artists convey messages or provoke thinking around concepts, issues and personal perspectives. Students have created a variety of artworks to express themselves using an array of media.

 

We invite you to explore the messages they are sharing through their artworks on Thursday 4 December from 2.30 - 3.15pm in the Bark Chip area. If it is raining, the exhibition will take place in the Year 5 classrooms and Walpole Deck.

Year 5  Outdoor Education Excursion - Coningham Beach

Friday 5 December

On Friday 5 December, Year 5 students will be visiting Coningham Beach for an Outdoor Education day starting at 9.00am and returning at 3.00pm. Our focus is connecting with the natural environment and self-management in the outdoors. Students will participate in various activities including a walk, swim/beach games and nature journaling. Outdoor Education teachers Sam Jarvis and Emily Ardas and Outdoor Education Teaching assistant Damian Cruise will be accompanying the students together with the classroom teachers and other support staff. 

 

Students will need to wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions (consider good sun protection). Students will need to pack a towel (preferably hoodie towel) and bathers, a warm jumper (e.g. fleece, not cotton), sun hat, suncream, waterproof raincoat, lunch, snacks and water bottle. Please send along a plastic or water proof bag for wet swimmers and towel. Students will also need to wear sturdy shoes for walking. 

Year 2 Musical

Friday 5 December

Year 2 students will be performing Eddie the Penguin on Friday 5 December at 2.15pm. Everyone has been working hard to learn their lines, songs and actions and we can’t wait to share this with our Year 2 families and our Primary School classmates. The performance will be in The Farrall Centre. 

Year 6 End of Year Events

Year 6 Assembly - Tuesday 9 December 9.20am - 11.00am in The Farrall Centre

Please join us to celebrate your child’s completion of the IB Primary Years Programme. Students will share a brief individual reflection of their experiences and receive a certificate to mark their time at primary school. 

 

Year 6 Social - Wednesday 10 December,  6.30pm - 8.00pm in The Farrall Centre

The Year 6 social will be held in The Farrall Centre, a chance for students to celebrate their year with games and dancing. Children will be signed in at 6.30pm and signed out at 8.00pm. We ask that parents come to the foyer to collect their child. Please email your child’s teacher about any alternative arrangements for their pick up. 

 

We ask that students do not bring technology to this event. Staff will be taking photos during the social which will be available for sharing the following day.

 

Catering for the social: each student is to bring a small dish to share. Please note there are no re-heating facilities and pre-cut foods are preferred. 

  • 6M and 6H: Savoury, for example quiche, pre-heated sausage rolls/party pies, sushi, dips and veggie sticks, meat balls, pre-cut cheese and crackers
  • 6D: Sweets, for example biscuits, cake, fruit kebabs, fairy bread etc (no lollies)
  • Teachers: Drinks and tomato sauce

     

Dress code: casual smart clothing required, similar to when they might go out to a nice restaurant. We want students to feel comfortable to dance and participate in activities on the night. 

Primary School Choir - ABC Radio Performance

Wednesday 10 December 

Friends’ Primary School Choir will be singing live on ABC radio again this year, on Wednesday 10 December. Students will depart school by bus at 8.40am and will return by 10.40am. We hope that you are able to tune in to the 9.30am Broadcast. You can also listen at a later time by heading to the ABC Radio HOBART website and selecting the ListenBack link on the toolbar. 

Last Day of Term - Primary School Celebration

Thursday 11 December

On Thursday 11 December, the Kindergarten to Year 6 classes and staff will be coming together as a learning community on the Argyle Street Campus to celebrate the last day of the 2025 school year. We will be having lunch and enjoying a range of games and activities. Years 2 to 6 students will also have the opportunity to enjoy a swim at Friends Health & Fitness. These year groups will need bathers, a towel, swimming cap (goggles optional) and a bag for wet bathers. 

 

Students may wear sports uniform and require a packed lunch and water bottle. All students will require a hat, sunscreen should be applied prior to school and will be available throughout the day.

 

At 2.50pm we will farewell our Year 6 students on the bottom green and parents of these students are welcome to attend. Drop off and pick up arrangements will remain as normal for this day.

2026 Instrument/Vocal Tuition Enrolment

Private instrument and vocal tuition will be available at The Friends’ School again in 2026 for students from Years 3-12. A link to allow you to enrol your children in this program will be available in the first week of December.

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Primary School Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: primaryschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au) and the classroom teacher before 8.45am. We appreciate your support in this process.
