Coloured Craft Sand Recall
Message from Ms. Emily FitzSimons, College Principal
We would like to provide an update regarding the recall of certain coloured craft and play sand products currently under investigation for possible asbestos contamination.
Health authorities, including the Australian Government and the Victorian Department of Health, have recently downgraded the potential risk to human health from low to very low. While the risk is minimal, the College has taken a cautious and responsible approach.
A small number of these items were stored at the College in sealed containers and have now been safely removed and disposed of. Our Risk and Compliance Coordinator has also completed a College-wide audit to ensure all affected products were identified and removed in accordance with national guidelines.
Information for Families
Some families may also have coloured craft or play sand at home. As this is a community wide recall, we encourage you to stay informed and follow the most up to date advice from health authorities.
If you have these products at home, please:
Stop using them immediately.
Avoid disturbing or tipping out loose sand.
Place the container in a sealed bag.
Follow the official steps for safe disposal.
The most current guidance, including interim advice for households, is available here.
This advice will continue to be updated as further information becomes available.
The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and families remains central to every decision we make. We will continue to follow all guidance from health authorities and ensure our learning environments remain compliant and safe.
