Positive Behaviour for Learning

Every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.

        Lesson Plan: Apologising Properly

Step 1: List Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to :

Identify words and actions that can hurt and upset others

Practise ways to apologise respectfully afterwards

It will look like:

Saying what you did wrong

Identifying how you think it made the other person feel

Identifying how you feel once you admit you did the wrong thing

Saying sorry

Step 2:  List a rationale for teaching the behaviour

Why is it important?

Holy Rosary School Values:

Relationships, Respect, Resilience, Integrity, Kindness.

Holy Rosary School Expectations:

Safety is our right. Learning is our responsibility. Respect is our way.

Step 3:  Identify examples and non-examples of the desired behaviour

What would the behaviour look/sound like?

Examples

Students admitting when they’ve done the wrong thing

Saying sorry with meaningful tone, volume and pace

Looking at the person you are apologising to

Identifying how your actions might have made the other person feel

Identifying how you feel, having done something hurtful

What would the behaviour not look/sound like?

Non-examples

Blaming others for your behaviour

Saying sorry in an aggressive or passive aggressive way

Looking away when apologising to someone

Blaming the other person for the reason you did something hurtful in the first place
