From Our School Leaders

End Of The Year
It has been a terrific year at Scoresby Primary School. We have celebrated many successes in our academic data, with several students achieving outstanding results. In the second half of the year, we placed a strong focus on enhancing our teaching practices, guided by the principles of The Science of Learning. These practices have seen many schools improve their student outcomes, and we have already seen our students adapt and progress as we have introduced the strategies and practices of this new research into our classrooms.
Much work has been done in Literacy this semester, and next year we are starting the year with all the new components in place. This work has been led by Nicole Rheumer and Jordyn Whittington, after they completed the Literacy Pedagogy and Practice Course at the Victorian Academy in the second half of this year.
Next year we are looking to do a similar project with Mathematics.
School leaders for 2026 will be announced at assembly tomorrow.
Class Structure For Next Year
In the new year we will be running 5 classes at Scoresby PS. This seems like a drop, but in 2025 we ran 8 classes, which could have been 6. We were able to have smaller classes in some parts of the school.
Next year, each class we will have an average size of 22 students across the school.
There is a big move planned at SPS in readiness for next year. We are keen for our classes to all have a collaborative learning space. A collaborative learning space is good for a number of reasons :
Year levels can work together, broadening and strengthening friendships across the level.
Working together builds a community of learners.
Teachers can deliver lessons together – great for inquiry and maths investigations.
Teachers can target individual needs (either for testing or extra explanation) while other staff continue on with lesson delivery.
Teachers can observe each other teaching and trialling new elements of their practice.
Our Year F-2s will be moving to the end of the main building and working in the freshly painted and carpeted classrooms on the left-hand side. The F-2 collaborative space will be the large double classroom on the right-hand side of the corridor.
Our Year 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 classes will all work in the BER. This is to ensure the students and teachers can work and plan together, and that we keep our Year 4s and Year 5s working closely as cohorts.
Staffing News
At the end of this year, we are saying goodbye to a few staff who are moving on for a variety of reasons.
Larissa Holdsworth and Jamie Purdon will be finishing up contracts at Scoresby PS at the end of the year. Both Larissa and Jamie have been fantastic members of staff. Larissa has been with us for 2 years, and Jamie has had one year at Scoresby PS. Both have been valued members of their teams and our community, and we wish them all the best with their future endeavours.
Alison Lancashire has decided the time has come for her to move down to her beloved Gippsland coast with husband Warwick, and begin their retirement together, with many beach walks and a calmer pace to life.
Alison has been at Scoresby PS for many years, first as a parent and then as an ES staff member, and has supported numerous children by working in classrooms as an integration aide, or through intervention programs such as QuickSmart and MiniLit. Alison is a much-loved and long-time valued member of staff here who will be greatly missed. We wish Alison and Warwick all the very best for their future.
OSHC for 2026
End of the year arrangements with our current OSHC provider DS Sports
DS Sports will be operating until the end of the year at Scoresby PS, however they will not be offering after-school care on the last day of term - Friday 19th December. They will do before school care on this day.
In 2026, Scoresby Primary School is changing our OSHC provider and will partner with After the Bell.
Families can commence enrolment from 12th December 2025 via their website or using the link in the welcome letter - found later in the newsletter. We are looking forward to this partnership. After the Bell will advertise their weekly OSHC program in our newsletters, and weekly COMPASS posts. They offer exciting indoor and outdoor activities. We are very pleased they are coming to Scoresby PS.

We are awaiting the outcome of the part-time principal position; interviews are being held this week. The community will be informed as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience in this matter.
End-Of-The-Year Fun
The Colour Run
What a wonderful afternoon for our SPS Community. We really love our whole school events, and this year our Colour Run was a bit extra special with another local joining us - Scoresby CFA.
The Scoresby CFA fire truck was able to make it to the event and happily provided a spray of water to cool everyone down as they ran past. Two wonderful staff were slimed by our highest fundraisers, Ollie and Lilly.
Thank you to the Colour Run Team who put this event together.
Market Day
A fabulous Market Day was held by our 1/2s and 3/4s on Monday afternoon. So many hand-made Christmas goodies and plants were on sale. The care that the students had gone to, to make their wares, was outstanding. Congratulations to the Year 1-4 students and staff for putting on the event. It was such an all-round success!
2026 Foundation Final Transition and Meet Your Buddy Session
On Tuesday morning, our 2026 Foundation students had their last transition-to-school session. We are delighted with how they have settled into Scoresby Primary School, and on Tuesday they got to meet their Year 6 Buddy. It’s always hard to tell who is more excited, the Year 6 student or the Foundation student. We are now looking forward to our newest students starting school in late January.
Year 6-7 Transition
Our Year 6s also had their formal state-wide transition day on Tuesday 9th December at their new high schools. This is a momentous day for them as they step onto the next rung of the education ladder.
Big Day Out
Wednesday was the Big Day Out for our senior students, the day that the Year 5/6s go to Luna Park as an end-of-year celebration. A wonderful day was had by all!
Christmas Concert and Art Show
Tonight is the SPS Christmas Concert and Art Show. LOTS of work has gone into both of these events to highlight The Arts programs at Scoresby Primary School. Congratulations to Karen Coster and Jarren Boyd for their work and efforts in putting this showcase together. We are sure you’ll agree that we have fabulous staff helping to develop these fantastic skills in our amazing students.
As The School Year Draws To A Close...
As the year draws to a close, it’s natural to pause and reflect on the months gone by. We are immensely proud of - and deeply grateful to - our staff for the committed, generous care they provide to our students, and for the support they show one another every day.
To our parents and caregivers, thank you for your unwavering support. We truly value our school community and look forward to strengthening our connections with you in the year ahead.
And to our students - you are absolute superstars! You have worked hard to achieve your goals, and it shows. Visitors to our school often comment on the calm and happy environment we have here, and that is a direct reflection of you.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas. May you enjoy time with your loved ones and have a restful, refreshing summer break.
