Market Day

Year 5 Market Day
Dear Parents,
During this term, Year 5 students completed a Knowledge Rich unit on Understanding Economics. As part of this unit they investigated the difference between ‘needs’ and ‘wants’, ‘producers’ and ‘consumers’, and ‘goods’ and ‘services’. At the end of the unit, students will be involved with creating their own small business venture, which will come to fruition on Market Day on December 3rd.
In the lead up to Market Day, students have been placed in small business teams and have been faced with the challenge of developing a business venture (good or service) that will be appealing to other students in the school (their consumers). Students are responsible for all aspects of their business and its management.
Once approved by the Proposal and Finance Committee (teachers); their businesses receive start-up funding with the aim of making a profit which is to be donated to the State Schools’ Relief organisation.
Year 5 business owners have worked very hard to design businesses that will appeal to their target consumers and we ask that you support this program by sending your child to school on Market Day with a few dollars that they can spend as consumers and also to support the a Victorian charity.
There are a range of stalls to shop at, including cakes, cookies and sweet drinks, coloured hair spray, fake tattoos, basketball shot, ring toss, lucky dips and dunk the teacher. Prices will range from 50c to $3. Consumers will have time to visit many of these businesses.
Once again, please support our students as business owners and the charity they have selected on Market Day (COINS ONLY PLEASE).
Thank you,
Grade 5 Teachers
