Parent Helpers
We are so thankful for the support we have from our parent helpers which includes parents, grandparents and older family members. Thank you to our SAKG helpers for modifying your schedules to support us this week and also to our swimming super stars for supporting this invaluable program.
In Cyber Safety we will be exploring ways online communication could be interpreted by different audiences and explore strategies to avoid misinterpretation when communicating online. In SWPBS grades are continuing to work on Be Safe focusing on transitions and walking through classrooms and grounds.
Making comparisons between Victoria and countries in South America focusing on population, currency, capital cities and geographical landmarks. Your child has been assigned a South American country to research in CBL. Students will be focusing on finding evidence through research and answering the prompt questions in their own words. We are highlighting the importance of summarising in their own words rather than copying information (plagiarising) from the internet.
What you could do to support your child
You could ask your child which country they have been allocated and discuss what they have learnt about the population, currency, capital cities and geographical landmarks of their country. Encourage them to be curious and brainstorm more questions about their country that they want to explore next.
Students will be doing a fun narrative writing activity this week where they will choosing a title for their narrative from a selection of paint cards. Students will be continuing to work to create an engaging piece, written descriptively in their own author’s voice.
What you could do to support your child
Please discuss the narrative title with your child, what is the genre of the story be, what direction do they want to take the piece in? Please support them to consider possible character traits, setting, complications and resolution.
Over the coming weeks students will be introduced to probability they will describe possible everyday events and order outcomes based on their likelihood of occurring. They will conduct repeated chance experiments to observe relationships between outcomes in games and other chance situations.
What you could do to support your child
Many board games involve chance and probability; we encourage families to spend some time together playing games at home. You could discuss words such as likely, unlikely, certain, impossible, fair and unfair.
