Leadership updates and reflections

Update from Julie

It is hard to believe that we are in Week 8 and there are only 4 weeks of the year left. There is still so much happening with students participating in transition sessions, grades practising their performances for Carols Night, and planning underway for upcoming camps for our Grade 1s, Grade 4's and Grade 2s, a Grade 4 excursion to Melbourne Museum and our Prep students Grandparents Day.  The swimming program was a highlight for Grade 1/2s last week and our Preps and 3/4s are enjoying their swimming progam this week.  It is a particularly busy and exciting time for our Grade 6 students as they attend their secondary school transition days, participate in their final Cybersafety session, complete their Memory Books, plan for their Buddy Christmas Lunch and prepare for Graduation and their Big Day Out. Please put the date in your diary for our special final assembly for the year which will be on Wednesday, December 17th starting at 2:15pm.

 2026 Student Leaders

Congratulations to our Grade 5 students who recently put themselves forward for the 2026 student leadership positions of School Captains and Ambassadors.

Twenty-three students prepared and delivered exceptional speeches, demonstrating courage, maturity and a strong commitment to our school community. We commend each of them for presenting so confidently to their peers and teachers.

This week, the twelve shortlisted students also impressed during their interviews. The panel was truly blown away by the poise, enthusiasm and thoughtful responses shown by every candidate.

We are confident that our 2026 School Captains and Ambassadors will be outstanding role models and will represent our students and school with pride.

Planning for 2026

Next week, our 2026 Level and Specialist Teams will participate in a dedicated planning day, working together in their newly formed groups. This will be a valuable opportunity for both new and current teachers to collaborate and begin preparing for the year ahead.

Our 2026 staffing structure is almost finalised and will be shared with families shortly.

Class Placements for 2026

Teachers are currently finalising class placements for next year. We value and respect student voice in this process, and all students have had the opportunity to nominate positive learning partners and friends to ensure they are placed with at least one of their chosen peers. We appreciate families recognising that class allocation is a complex and thoughtfully considered process, with decisions made to support the best outcomes for all students.

Students will find out their 2026 classes and meet their new classroom teacher at the  Step Up Morning on Tuesday 9th December.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our Carols Night on Wednesday December 3rd.

Warm regards

Julie

Disability Inclusion

A Day at School - the rights of students with disabilities at school and reasonable adjustments

I would like to share a short, yet powerful video created by the Australian Government Department of Education that highlights the rights of students with disability within our schools and the importance of making reasonable adjustments. The video is part of the resources supporting the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE) and aims to bring to life what inclusive schooling looks like in practice.

It is a great resource as it helps explain:

  • what reasonable adjustments are,
  • how schools support students with disability, and
  • the collaborative role of students, families, and educators.

December 3rd is International Day of People with Disability - we will celebrate this in next weeks Wonga Weekly.

Social media age restrictions webinars (this post will continue in all Wonga Weeklies for the remainder of 2025)

From 10 December 2025, certain social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australian children under 16 create or keep an account.

Join our information sessions for parents and carers; educators and youth-serving professionals to understand the changes, their purpose and implications.

Parents and carers

The 30-minute webinar will help parents and carers understand the upcoming changes to social media access for children under 16.

Join our information session to:

  • understand the purpose of the new age restrictions and how they aim to protect young Australians
  • understand which platforms will require users to be 16+ and what platforms they can still access
  • get tips and resources to support your child’s online safety and wellbeing through the transition.

 Parents and carers will gain:

  • a clear understanding of the new rules and their implications
  • confidence in guiding their child through these changes
  • access to trusted resources to support safe and positive online engagement.
