Positive Behaviour for Learning

Every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.

Lesson Plan: Keeping Ourselves Safe at School

Step 1: List Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to :

keep ourselves safe around the school gates and identify who we can talk to if we feel unsafe.

It will look like:

explaining safe and unsafe behaviours near the school gate

not speaking to or approaching strangers

naming my Personal Safety Network of trusted adults

speaking to the Child Safety & Wellbeing Team anytime I don’t feel safe.

Step 2:  List a rationale for teaching the behaviour

Why is it important?

Holy Rosary School Values:

Relationships, Respect, Resilience, Integrity, Kindness.

Holy Rosary School Expectations:

Safety is our right. Learning is our responsibility. Respect is our way.

Step 3:  Identify examples and non-examples of the desired behaviour

What would the behaviour look/sound like?

Examples

Playing away from the front gate

Letting teachers know if strangers approach students at the front gate

Letting teachers know if strangers are talking to students at the front gate

Naming the people who are on my personal safety network

What would the behaviour not look/sound like?

Non-examples

Playing on the front gate and front fence

Talking to strangers over the fence

Not reporting unsafe behaviours to a teacher
