Wellbeing Garden Renewal Project
After being left unused for some time, the Wellbeing Garden at Doncaster Secondary College is now set for an exciting revival led by the Student Wellbeing Committee. The committee is working hard to rebuild and replant the space, transforming it back into a vibrant and welcoming sanctuary for students and staff. Wellbeing Committee students have undertaken a series of leadership and program planning workshops with staff from Access Health, guiding us with the principles of the Vic Kids Eat Well program and assisting us in our 2025/26 project planning and timelines.
The Vic Kids Eat Well program is a state-wide movement designed to transform the food and drink environments where young people spend their time, and in our case, supports secondary schools to offer healthier, more nourishing choices and making healthy eating more accessible. The program provides simple steps that help schools create lasting, positive change by harnessing community involvement. In our program , the plan includes refreshing the Wellbeing garden beds with new vegetation, introducing sustainable features such as composting and water-efficient irrigation. This project aims to breathe new life into the garden, restoring it as a space that supports both good food choices and mental wellbeing, mindfulness, and connection. Through the dedication of the Wellbeing Committee, the renewed garden will once again flourish as a symbol of growth, care, and community at Doncaster Secondary College.
Students have begun the process of renewing the garden, spending time this term weeding and tidying up the space and making plans for planting and updating of the space. We look forward to seeing the fruits (and vegetables) of the students' hard work in early 2026!
