Year 8 Indonesian

Rumah Adat 2025

This semester in Indonesian we have been exploring one of the most central aspects that God has placed within culture and that is family. We have been focusing specifically on relationships, housing, clothing and food, exploring the vibrancy and flavours of Indonesian life!

As a part of this focus on family, students in Year 8 Indonesian were invited to choose a project from amongst these three options:

·       A traditional house constructed of icy pole sticks and cardboard.

·       A batik tote bag – using traditional batik patterns and symbols.

·       A performance using Angklung – a traditional musical instrument.

Amazing houses were built demonstrating Indonesian cultural responses to both climate and family needs. The batik bags were beautifully painted using traditional patterns and designs. There were 2 Angklung performances with both groups playing their traditional instruments along with very modern songs. It was a great cultural experience for us all!
