Year 12 Graduation
After 13 years of schooling it is finally here...
On Saturday 22 November we commissioned and farewelled the Year 12 class of 2025. Though there is the excitement of seeing where God will lead our students next, there is also the inevitable sadness of letting go of the close bonds that have formed over the many years.
It is a long held tradition at MECS that the teachers give a speech about each student, acknowledging and celebrating their giftedness. It was evident from these speeches that the staff not only knew their students’ academic abilities, but also their character; and were desirous for students to use their gifts as a response to God’s great love for His world.
Other components of the evening’s celebrations included saying farewell to families that have formally completed their MECS journey, with their last child graduating. We also heard from Vanessa and Leigh Rankcom (parents of Sebastian) about the challenges of learning during lockdown and MECS’s ability to cater for a diverse range of learning needs. Our Principal Michelle Dempsey provided the closing address, extolling the virtue of character over influence; encouraging our graduands to be justice seekers, welcoming advocates, truth discerners, purposeful learners, community builders, creation keepers and awe dwellers.
Given that the future isn’t always clear, there is comfort in knowing that God will lead us and hold us steady in any and all circumstances. As the Psalmist proclaims, “If I rise on wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast”. Psalm 139: 9-10.
So, though graduation marks the end of the schooling journey, it also signifies a beginning. We wish the class of 2025 God’s blessing in their future endeavors; that they might know God’s guidance and love (as the Psalmist said) as they look to Him in all they do.
