Please check the reminders and upcoming event dates below for the remainder of this term, and remember to check Class Dojo for any further updates.

We are looking forward to the many exciting opportunities ahead with Step Up Day on Monday, 8th December, our Whole School Mass and Colour Run (take two!) on Friday, 12th December, and the Christmas Liturgy and Carols on Tuesday, 16th December

This will also be the students' last day of Term 4.

Watch out for some great photos of these exciting events!

OLSC Feast Day

We had a wonderful celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. The morning began with a procession around the school and church block, followed by Mass. It was wonderful to see some of our families join us for this celebration also. Our students were incredibly reverent throughout.

After the break, we had lots of fun participating in a variety of games and activities run by Kaboom Kids

Student Leadership 2026 Speeches

On Monday, 17th November, our students had the opportunity to listen to some Year 5 students present their 2026 student leadership speeches. The Year 5 students introduced themselves, explained why they were qualified, and outlined how they intended to lead the school as school or sport captains.  Well done to all students who presented their speeches. Our leaders will be announced at our Whole School Mass.

Religion

Year 3

Over the last few weeks in Religion, the students learned about the Advent Gospel story, and how the values of this story can be lived and celebrated in our daily lives. They examined scripture from Matthew's Gospel, and participated in activities to explore examples of hope, love, joy and peace. These included creating a story map or comic strip to recall a Gospel event, writing and drawing ways we can live each value during Advent, and a journal entry reflection on what was enjoyable about Advent and how we can prepare for Jesus. The students also had an opportunity to say short prayers to Mary and Jesus, and illustrate a key moment of Joseph and Mary from the nativity story.

Year 4

Over the last few weeks in Religion, the students learned about the Advent Gospel story, and how the values of this story can be lived and celebrated in our daily lives. They examined scripture from Luke's Gospel, and participated in activities to explore the values of hope, love, joy and peace. These included drawing and writing examples on how they can show each value to others, and reading about the customs and symbols used to celebrate the coming of Christ. The analysed Luke's scripture version of the nativity with a particular focus on context and importance of each character and event that took place.

Literacy

Year 3

In Literacy, the students have been reading and responding to queries from our class novel called Matilda. They have been learning how to identify figurative language in literature and how it can influence meaning. The students have been identifying how authors use dialogue to convey what characters say and think. They have been using varying sentence types to write more interesting and engaging topic sentences for a paragraph. The students had opportunities to apply their writing skills to reflect on their learning week.

Year 4

In Literacy, the students have been applying new vocabulary during speaking, reading and writing. They have been writing sentences using the conjunctions because / but / so to show reason, contrast or cause. The students have been learning how to read accurately and fluently, and monitor comprehension to build meaning. They responded to queries by sharing and extending ideas and opinions from our class novel called, The Wild Robot to demonstrate and support comprehension. The students also had the opportunity to write a book review using a planner, and write a final chapter for this text.

Mathematics

Year 3

In Numeracy, the students have been building on their understanding of the concepts of Mass and Capacity. This involved an introduction to formal metric units, reading measurement scales, comparing and ordering measurements, estimating and comparing, and application of Mass and Capacity. The students participated in practical, hands-on experiences that involved balancing scales to directly and indirectly compare masses. They also read measurement scales with a range of increments on measuring jugs and scaled containers.

Year 4

The Year 4 students have wrapped up their Probability unit by exploring the idea of chance through hands-on experiments. They recorded the outcomes of dice rolls and compared results from an exciting 100-round Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge to see how predictions match real results!

We’ve now moved on to our new topic on 2D and 3D shapes. The Year 4’s are learning to identify two-dimensional shapes on three-dimensional objects, as well as name, describe, sort, and compare 3D shapes based on their properties. This unit is helping us to explore the connection between the shapes around us! The students followed their three dimensional object plan of a robot to construct this out of recycled materials with a partner.

Inquiry

As part of our science unit, the students have been inquiring into the food chains of local wildlife. A food chain is a simple model showing how energy is passed from one living thing to another as they eat each other. Students identified what an animal ate, and then had to determine whether that animal was eaten on the food chain. They participated in food chain related activities where they had to weave a food web using string, assume the role of a consumer or decomposer to help describe the functions of each, and created a food web using either ‘Canva’ software or on paper. The students showcased their food webs to their peers, and explained the interconnections between each animal.

Wellbeing

During Wellbeing sessions, students have been learning about gender norms and stereotypes. This has involved a particular focus on challenging stereotypes through stories, use of inclusive language, and viewing diversity in the media and through play. The students engaged in sorting activities in which they had to decide whether certain characteristics (e.g. household chores) were for girls or boys. They continued exploring their rights and responsibilities, and how these involved knowing safety procedures, having the skills to perform tasks safely, and participating in group discussions to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

It's that time of year again when all students must wear a hat when outside. It is strongly suggested that the hat be a bucket style, as this gives the best protection. School hats are available from the uniform shop. Please make sure your child's hat has their name on it. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to stay in the shade, because we do have...

NO HAT, NO PLAY
