Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One

It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of the year! This term has truly flown by, and it’s been wonderful to see the growth, energy, and commitment our students have shown each day. They’ve been working incredibly hard to wrap up their learning, finish projects, and demonstrate the progress they’ve made. As we move into the final stretch, we’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and excited to celebrate their successes.

Literacy:

In literacy we have been exploring noun groups and how we can use them in our writing to describe the animals we are looking at. We have looked at lots of information texts to see how these can help us with our writing and provide us with lots of different information and facts. This week we have worked hard to create posters on our animal, ensuring we add in habitat, diet and facts.

Math:

In maths we have been looking at fractions. We had fun using different objects to show our understanding of fractions: such as counters, playdough and paper. Our favourite one  was making fairy bread to then show that we can cut it into half, quarters and eighths. This week we have started looking at patterns, understanding the rules and showing how we can continue on a pattern.

Religion:

In religion we have started to look at advent, we have learnt about the significance of advent, what all the candles represent, their meaning and when we’re supposed to light each candle. We want you to think about what is:

  • Hope to me …
  • Peace to me …
  • Joy to me …
  • Love to me …

And how can you let your light shine this advent? This week we have begun to look at Matthew's version of the Christmas Story and show how we can retell this story in our own way.

Inquiry:

In inquiry, this fortnight we started our information booklet, we had to choose an animal from the zoo to research about. So far we have had a look at classification and diet, habitat, life cycle and adaptations. We are very excited to show you our booklets when they are finished, so far they look GREAT!

Reminders:

  • Playground Use After School: The playground is not open after school during pickup time. Please remind your child to head straight to you and avoid playing on the equipment. Your support is greatly appreciated.
  • Running to pick up bay: Can you please remind your child at the end of the day that we don't run to the pick up bay. Multiple times other parents and children have almost been bowled over. Your support in this is appreciated.
  • iPads: Students are expected to bring their iPads fully charged each day, as they are an essential tool for learning.
  • Brain Food: Students have a brain food break at 10:00 AM. Please pack a healthy snack such as fruit or vegetables for this time.
  • No Hat, No Play - Just a reminder that we are now entering hat season. All students will require a hat for play and if they don't have a hat, students will be asked to play in the shade.
