Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

Level 3 and 4 News

Level 3

What a start to the 2024 school year we’ve had! The Level 3 students have settled into their new classes and routines with ease and are enjoying the extra responsibilities of being members of the senior school.

The first two weeks were spent consolidating and establishing new friendships with classmates and becoming familiar with their new teachers and classroom routines. Students completed activities from the ‘Start Up’ program which encouraged team building, established shared norms and promoted a sense of belonging. It was fantastic to see the Level 3 students maximise all opportunities to set themselves up for a wonderful year ahead. We can’t wait to watch our students thrive in 2024!

Literacy

Level 3 students have learned how to identify a ‘Just Right’ book and have focused on making predictions and different types of connections whilst reading. Students have also focused on their ‘inner voice’ when reading to help them understand texts on a deeper level. They have learned how to borrow books by themselves in the library with the assistance of Mrs Ellis and have enjoyed the extra responsibility given to them.

Students have been introduced to ‘Word Work’ which involves consistent practice and implementation of grammar skills and phonemic awareness, which will be incorporated into homework.

In Writing, students will be developing a deeper understanding of the persuasive writing process and will then extend their knowledge of narrative writing.

Mathematics

In Maths students have been introduced to data collection as they represented their classmates’ birthdays into a bar graph. Students will be continuing to develop their understanding of place value and identifying the value of a digit within a number, as well as practise using mental computation strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Inquiry

This term, students will further their understanding of wellbeing through The Resilience Project lessons which has already prompted some meaningful conversation. There will continue to be a focus of cyber safety and digital wellbeing with engaging lessons run through the Cyber Safety Project, which will be run consistently over the year.

For our Unit of Inquiry, our topic ‘Australia - An Ancient Land’ will allow students to develop critical thinking and questioning skills and further their understanding of Australia’s rich cultural history and features unique to this land. This will culminate in each student delivering an Oral Presentation to their classmates.

 Flora & Fauna

We have had a lovely start to our Flora & Fauna Program this year. Students will take part in a range of activities across the year in our four rotations Cooking, Gardening, Science and Sustainability.

Cath 0’Keefe is very passionate about teaching students about kitchen safety and basic cooking skills. She enjoys being creative with food and encouraging students to try new foods that they wouldn’t normally try.

Paddy O’Neill is a keen and passionate gardener who enjoys teaching students about the importance of looking after our outdoor environment.

We are all looking forward to an amazing year!
