Dog Treats - Animal Science

In the year 9 Animal Science elective students have been learning about ways to enrich our domestic pets lives while we are at school and work. Students have made a slow feeder treat ball in previous lessons and this week made dog treats. Students made their treats into different shapes and designs to place into their treat ball. Hopefully students pets enjoyed their special treat this week!

Here are 8C having a great time learning about the digestive system. We use chocolate, oats, orange juice and water to make our finished product. The journey begins at the mouth (bowl), where students use scissors (teeth) to cut up their food. They mix the contents in a zip lock bag with orange juice to represent the stomach and stomach acid. They continue through all the steps until they are required to pass their finished product onto the newspaper. Here are some of the completed products.

Veggie Garden

In the year 10 Agricultural Science class students have been busy preparing and tidying the school's vegetable garden. So far students have cleaned their individual planter boxes, organised irrigation, planted seedlings, and cleared the weeds. We have been putting boxes down on the ground to assist with the three corner jacks, and putting a layer of bark chips over the top. Students have analysed the carbon content and microbiome health of their soil, and are preparing to grow native quandong seeds. The aim is to have a native fruit garden growing in this space.
