Catch-Ups:

We are always proud to hear of the success of our WHS ex-pupils. Jahzara's brother Joseph is a good example.

Joseph features New American Recipes From The Nation's Top Foreign-Born Chefs in a new book  - "Place At The Table."

Born in New Zealand of Fiji Indian heritage, Joseph Sukhendra draws on his experience as a world traveller as he creates superior Southwest flavours in Austin, Texas. During Sukhendra's childhood, cooking was central to his family and culture. He often spent the whole day in the kitchen helping his grandmother cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inspired by her and the two professional chefs in the family, Sukhendra was determined to perfect his craft and pursue a serious culinary career.

He got his first restaurant job at age sixteen. His first stop in the United States was Nashville, where he cooked under James Beard Award-nominated chef Tyler Brown at the Hermitage Hotel. Here, Sukhendra developed and refined his understanding of Southern American cuisine and the revolutionary flavours of the New South.

Chef Andrew Wiseheart of Austin's award-winning Contigo Restaurant recruited Sukhendra to join the team, which has earned awards from Food and Wine for several consecutive years. Sukhendra now oversees Contigo's extensive catering division, bringing superior cuisine to elite events. Guests savour dishes like fried quail egg, duck confit with carrot flower, and raspberry Pavlova with black pepper whipped cream.
