Teddy Bears' Picnic:

Last Tuesday, our Junior School - Piwakawaka and Tui teams - celebrated whānaungatanga (family-ness) by putting on a Teddy Bears' Picnic.

A big thank you to all the parents and extended whānau who came along and joined us for this special event.

Children loved rolling and tumbling down the hill, exploring the bush, collecting Cicada skeletons, playing with our big parachute, making forts and tents and (pretend) camp-fires in the bush. It was wonderful.

A couple of families provided fresh-cut watermelon to share - and it was delicious.

I checked out the lunchboxes and noted three things - lots of healthy food, lots of kai (the lunchboxes were full), and lots of variety and delicious foods. When I went to primary school I had a Marmite sandwich and sometimes, if I was lucky, an apple. That was it pretty much every day of the year - and I don't even like Marmite (shame on me I know).
