Dear parents and guardians,
Welcome back to Term 1. It is an action-packed term of College sport!
The House Swimming carnival is fast approaching and I am calling for volunteers. If you are able to assist with timing or other odd jobs on Tuesday 13th February, please email me at edixon@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au. We also welcome all families to the carnival as supporters and cheer squad. As with previous years, the carnival will take place at the Hamilton outdoor pool between 9:30am and 3:00pm. The Parents' and Friends' Association will be running a BBQ and it is guaranteed to be a great day of swimming!
Swimming training began on Monday. All students, no matter ability, are welcome to participate in training on Monday and Wednesday at the outdoor pool between 4:00-5:00pm. There is also a Thursday morning session at HILAC between 7:00-8:00am. If you live out of town, casual boarding on these days is a good option. All students that win a race at House swimming are encouraged to attend swimming trainings in preparation for the GD swimming carnival (Thur 22 Feb in Portland) and ICCES swimming carnival (Tues 5 March at MSAC in Melbourne). We also invite all Year 6 students to join our trainings - please touch base with Louise Patterson.
It is predicted to be 30+ degrees for the Senior School carnival. Please consider bringing some shade to sit under and a hat! Also, we ask that parents/guardians remain in the spectator areas, and don't cross to the side of the pool where the students are sitting in Houses.
Photography
The College school photographer and Publicity Prefects will be taking photos at the carnival. Parents/guardians are reminded that no personal photography can take place throughout the day. This is a matter of our College adhering to Child Safety regulations.
Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.
Despite calls for volunteers, the Hamilton Netball Association committee, who run the junior netball competition for schools on a Saturday morning, has not been able to continue. Unfortunately for our students, this means there will be no netball in Term 1 at Pedrina Park.
If you are interested in volunteering to help run the competition in Term 4, please make contact with the HNA (via their Facebook page) so that our students can get back on the courts later this year. This has been a fantastic competition for our players!
The previous committee operated with only five people – it does not take too many hands to make this competition work. However, the more volunteers, the lighter the load.
8 and 9 June 2024
Following the performance of a team of 16-18 year-old College students in last year’s Serra Terror, in 2024 there is the opportunity for students at Hamilton-based high schools to participate in a schools’ division. Serra Terror is two-day team challenge where teams hike, run, or scramble over a spectacular 84km course in the Grampians.
School teams will vie to win the inaugural ‘Doug Award’ perpetual trophy. Team members need to be at least 16 years old, and each team must have two adults (18 years or above). There must be at least one adult on each section of the course and parental/carer approval must be provided for all student participants.
This is a fantastic local event. It would be great to get a couple of College teams competing.
