Year 10 Career Lessons

With Mrs Tilden

In the 2024 Year 10 Careers Lessons-

Students embarked on the Careers program in the first week of the academic year, engaging in bi-weekly sessions. Each student is crafting a personalised "My Student Action Plan," providing the careers advisor with valuable insights to guide them along their educational journey.

As part of their career preparation, students are actively creating their Unique Student Identifier (USI) numbers and contemplating potential businesses for upcoming work experience opportunities. This year, all students are expected to arrange their work experience placements independently. Those considering work experience on construction sites will be required to obtain a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card), with training sessions provided by ASPIRE at the end of terms one and three. This certification is not only valuable for work experience, but can also enhance resumes and is applicable for casual or holiday employment.

Throughout the semester, students will delve into various crucial topics, including the work readiness program,  Work Readiness Assessment Sheets, phone scripts, NESA requirements, navigating Schools Online, workplace safety, effective communication, career decision-making, registration on the Myfuture website, obtaining a Tax File Number, understanding rights and responsibilities at work, subject selection, exploring options like VET, TAFE, ATAR, SBAT, crafting resumes and cover letters, applying for part-time jobs, discovering where to search for employment opu7y,./mm.,portunities, and mastering the art of correctly filling in application forms.

All lessons will be delivered online in CANVAS. Students are encouraged to bring their device, or see their Year Advisor for a purple form to apply for a loan laptop.
