How to apply for the Schools Recommendation Scheme-

https://www.uac.edu.au/future-applicants/scholarships-and-schemes/schools-recommendation-schemes/how-to-apply

Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one way institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission to Year 12 students, using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.

To apply for SRS you must be a Year 12 applicant who is attempting one of the following:

  • an Australian Year 12 qualification in 2024
  • an International Baccalaureate in Australia in 2024.

You must also be:

  • a UAC applicant for undergraduate admission in 2025
  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or holder of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa.

Steps to completing your SRS application

Before you can apply for SRS, you need to apply for undergraduate admission through UAC. While there is a processing fee when you apply for undergraduate admission, there is no additional fee to apply for SRS.

  1. Follow the link to the SRS application from the undergraduate application.
  2. NSW HSC and ACT BSSS students: Details of your Year 11 studies should be displayed. Check that they are correct. If they're not correct, submit your SRS application and then contact UAC.
All other applicants (including all IB students): Enter the details of your Year 11 studies. After you submit your SRS application, upload a PDF of your Year 11 report to the qualifications section of your undergraduate application. You must upload your school report in order to have your studies assessed and considered by institutions as part of your SRS application. Uploaded documents cannot be edited or deleted but can be replaced up to three times.
  3. Accept the declaration.
  4. Download your confirmation of application.

You can only submit one SRS application.

Nominating your course preferences

You don’t need to nominate any courses in your SRS application because it is automatically linked to your course preferences in your UAC application for undergraduate admission.

Newcastle UNI Nursing pathway:

(Please see yr 12 canvas course)

We are pleased to advise that the School Based Traineeship (SBT) admission pathway to the Bachelor of Nursing has been approved for 2024 NSW HSC students.  The SBT admission pathway is now open to applicants from all Local Health Districts within NSW.

To be considered for 2025 entry under the School Based Traineeship pathway, applicants must inform the domestic admissions team at the University of Newcastle by emailing

Their applications will then be manually reviewed and assessed, as applicants will not be automatically identified.

To be eligible for admission via this pathway, applicants must satisfy all listed criteria:

·         Be a current school leaver, completing the NSW HSC in 2024 or have completed the NSW HSC in 2023 and;

·         Successfully complete the NSW Department of Education School Based Traineeship, including:

1.      Completed Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) HLT33115; and

3.      Successful completion and accumulation of 100 days/shifts of industry-based learning in a recognised public hospital across the NSW Health system. This must be equal to at least a minimum of 700 hours of paid on the job training.

Documentary evidence must be provided for assessment purposes and be able to support the above requirements. Clear colour copies or certified copies of supporting documents must be uploaded to the applicant’s UAC application, including:

·         Completed Higher School Certificate (HSC) and Record of Achievement, which lists the Human Services courses; and

·         A letter for NSW Health that verifies a minimum of 700 hours of industry-based learning has been completed by the applicant; and

Once applicants have completed their HSC, obtained their supporting materials, and uploaded them to UAC, they are required to email the University of Newcastle Admissions team at admissions@newcastle.edu.au so that the application can be reviewed. Applicants must not forget to list their VET Certificate III qualification in their UAC application. Applicants should always include their UAC application number in any correspondence.
