Year 1/2

Year 1/2 Cluster News
Home Inquiry
Home Inquiry will commence in Week 3. Home Inquiry is the learning that can be done at home during the week. More information will be provided about this at PIN and in the newsletter next week. For now, any reading at home, (preferably every night- even just 15 minutes) would be wonderful. Over the first week of school, classes have focused on setting up class communities, building relationships, and understanding learning and play expectations. Students are engaging in lessons around attributes of a learner, feelings, restorative practices and opportunities to get to know one another.

Learning for Week 2:
Jolly Spelling: will commence in Week 3. Writer’s Workshop: we will explore what writers do and will spend some time setting up and beginning book making this week.
Reader's Workshop: we will explore the reading environment and what is needed to create a space for reading, as well as choosing ‘good fit’ books.
Mathematics: we will begin looking at number skills and will be learning some mental computation games this week. We will also discuss what mathematicians do and what characteristics they have.
Unit of Inquiry: We will continue building our class culture and developing our class expectations. We will also inquire into the Learner Profile Attributes: Caring, Inquirers, Principled, Balanced, Knowledgeable, Communicators, Thinkers, Risk-Takers, Open-Minded and Reflective.
Each day students need to bring the following. Please label everything.
- Hats
- Take Home Bags which are also for Library borrowing.
- Water bottles
- A fruit snack
- Recess
- Lunch Lunch Boxes
A reminder that lollies and chocolates belong at home. Please pack a substantial lunch rather than lots of recess snacks and put an ice pack in on hot days. We also ask that you send in ‘nude food’ which does not include wrappers, as we have found that many end up as rubbish around the school.
Library Borrowing
Lessons are on Wednesdays for Year 1/2Z and Thursdays for Year 1/2AK.
Sunscreen
Please apply sunscreen in the mornings. We will encourage reapplication during the day. If your child requires their own sunscreen, please label it and they can keep it in their bag.
Toddle
Information has been sent out by our office for families to join Toddle. We post important information reminders, student learning, photos/videos and assessments on this platform.
Parent Information Night
We look forward to seeing you on our Parent Information Night on Wednesday 7th Feb. This starts at 6.00pm with wine and nibbles in the courtyard to mingle with other parents and staff. We will then run two repeat sessions in the classroom from 6.30-7.00 or 7.30-8.00. There will also be a whole school session from 7.00-7:30 in the Worship Centre. If you are not able to make it, we will send home a brief summary of what we will talk about on the night.
Family photo
We would love a family photo to put on our family wall in the classroom for children to look at during the day, including pets if you have any. Please either send a hard copy photo in or email one to us and we can print it.
Volunteers
During the year we have excursions, a Year 1 Sleepover and a Year 2 Camp. If you are interested in volunteering, there a few things you will need to have up to date to to be able to come along or to help in the classroom.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Responding to Abuse, Harm and Neglect training (RRHAN-EC)
- Valuing Safe Communities (VSC) training
