Careers

A warm welcome to parents and students as we start a new year.  We wish all our students a happy, healthy, productive and successful year, especially our Year 12 Class of 2024 – may they achieve all they are hoping for.

Aitken College has two Careers Counsellors, Ms Rae Gibbs and Mrs Clare Borg, who are available to assist students with queries they may have about course and career options post secondary school.  We are happy to discuss issues in person (the Careers Centre is located in Room B21) or via Zoom or by email (careers@aitkencollege.edu.au) or via the telephone (9333 9100) and we welcome visits to B21 from students who wish to talk about their future.

Information about Careers items will be displayed on the Careers News page in AIMS as they arise throughout the year.  News items will appear on AIMS to announce new material.  On the Careers News page you will find lots of useful information about career related events, updates about courses, Institution Open Days, important dates and activities which may assist with planning a direction post secondary school.  This information is published to encourage students to think about their future, to assist them to make informed decisions and to provide help with their career and course research.  For our Year 12 students, in particular, it will be a very busy year academically and socially, but it must also be a year where time is set aside for thinking about the future.  Reading the Careers items is one way of prompting these thoughts.  This information is not just for Year 12 students, however.  Students in Years 10 and 11 will also make big decisions about the VCE pathway and the subjects they will choose for the following year, and this in turn opens up or shuts down particular pathway options in the future.  It is important that these decisions and choices are made thoughtfully and after conducting thorough career research.  The Careers News items help keep students in the loop about events which may support and enhance their career research.  Please encourage your child to join the Career News Group in AIMS, this will enable them to stay up to date with information which is relevant and useful.

During the year there are also important Information Nights for parents to attend with their children and these are detailed in the College calendar on AIMS.  We would like to give advance warning to all our Year 12 students and their parents about the very important VTAC Information Night which is held in early August of Term 3.  This is ‘a must attend’ for Year 12 students planning to enrol in a university course in 2025.  In the meantime, the Class of 2024 should be starting to think about where they would like to go and what they would like to do after they complete their studies at Aitken and come and see us in B21 if they would like further information or help.

Best of luck to our senior school community, and especially the Class of 2024, for a fulfilling and positive year.
