The Fathering Project News

We are looking increase our work and connection with The Fathering Project and getting a number of activities up and running across the year.  These activities and events are a great way for dads and father figures to come along and get involved in their child’s education, and get to know other fathers in the community.

Our first event for this year will be a Games Afternoon on Friday 23rd February from 4.00-5.30pm.  We will have a variety of games for fathers and father figures to play with their child(ren), including tennis, bag toss, quoits, vortex throw and indoor games, such as Sequence, snakes and ladders, Connect Four.  We will be providing snacks and drinks as part of the afternoon.

Top Dad Tips

Preparing for a new school year can also mean setting your own parental goals. What goals you set yourself as a dad will positively impact your child throughout the school year. We get it – easier said than done, right? Kind of like those New Year's resolutions that fizzle out after a month or two! However - hear us out! By starting with simple things like the tips below, it will pave the way to a positive year. You've got this!

1. Establish a consistent routine
Creating a consistent daily routine is essential for children to thrive academically. Routines provide children with a sense of stability, helping them feel secure and better prepared for learning.

2. Lead by example

Children often emulate their parents, making it essential to model the behaviour you want to see in your child. You can try this by setting a personal goal to demonstrate a strong work ethic, a love for learning, or effective time management.

3. Encourage independence and responsibility
Establish personal parental goals to involve your child in decision-making processes and foster a sense of responsibility. Start simple for younger children, and provide more responsibility with age.
