P.E Auslan STEAM

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our first few weeks of P.E have consisted of getting ready for our Athletics Day. Across the school, all students have been developing their running, leaping and throwing skills for a variety of track and field events.

It's been great seeing all the new class composites and our students creating new bonds and friendships.

LOTE - AUSLAN

How amazing are our brand new preps! Already making huge progress with their signing skills, being able to sign the first letter of their name, their age as well as a range of manners.

Our junior, middle and senior students have been refreshing their signing knowledge from last year including the alphabet, numbers and basic greetings.

We are beginning to sign about 'who, what, where, when?' and using these as sentence starters.

STEAM

We have had high energy in the new STEAM room with everyone excited to get involved in hands-on activities and projects. STEAM was introduced with different experiments across the year levels including elephant's toothpaste, spaghetti and marshmallow towers, paper aeroplane competitions and floating foil boats.

The focus for Term 1 is living things and the weather. Our Prep to Year 2 students have been focusing on life cycles and creating related art projects where students revised their knowledge on colour theory and learned about creating patterns. Year 3 and 4 students have been growing their own bean seeds and exploring the art form of printmaking inspired by native Australian plants. Finally, our Year 5 and 6 students were studying microorganisms through research and various experiments. We watched a mixture of yeast, sugar and water blow up and balloon! We are now working on our final project where students are researching Japanese Pop Artist, Yayoi Kusama and creating an abstract piece inspired by her work and the shapes of microorganisms.
