Learning and Teaching

 - Mrs Anna Robertson

Welcome back for our final term of 2024, which is already proving to be an extremely productive one with great energy and action on all campuses already. I hope the break was a restful one for all our families, whether you were travelling or spending time closer to home.

Our family took the opportunity to travel over the break and spent time caravanning through Northern Victoria, Western New South Wales and South Australia. There were quite a few long days of driving and as such I spent a lot of time looking at – and thinking about - roads. Given the distances and places travelled, we encountered many different types of roads. There were long, straight stretches of bitumen, bumpy, ridged tracks of red dirt, narrow river crossings and even a muddy, slippery levy bank of grey clay, which none of our family will forget in a hurry!

As we returned from our time away and I began to look forward to the term ahead, I was struck by the connection that existed between the literal roads that we had travelled and the figurative ones that our students travel as they learn. There are times when learning is straightforward and a clear path can be seen ahead, while at other times, the road is bumpy or windy and you feel as though you might be crawling through your learning at this pace forever. Then there are the inevitable moments where you are stuck in your learning and you need help – just as we needed to be winched back off the levy bank to the middle of the road – learners need that support from their teacher to refocus, address misconceptions or hear alternative explanations. But whatever the road might look like, it is also constantly changing. So as we move quickly towards the end of the year, and for our older learners, towards examinations or final VCE assessments, I would like to take the opportunity to remind students and families that whatever the path looks like now, we are here to support you.

Over the coming weeks Senior School families in Year 8 – 11 will begin to receive confirmation of their subjects for 2025. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns or if things may have changed.

As always if you have any questions or need to speak with me, I can be contacted via email at arobertson@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au.

I look forward to a wonderful Term 4 ahead for all of our students, families, staff and school community.
