The College Co-Curricular

Who's Who at MCHF -  Gabriella Massoud

Co-curricular activities supplement the formal academic curriculum by offering students chances to delve into their interests, acquire fresh skills, and expand their perspectives. These activities go beyond the traditional classroom setting, encompassing a wide range of experiences that contribute to the holistic development of students.

 2024 Colour Run

The College Walk-a-thon and fun run campaign ended on a great high.  Students across both venues enjoyed the sunshine, laughter, and so much colour. We thank our Parent Association who ran the Sausage Sizzle, and Bob the Butcher who organised the BBQ's and sausages for our students.

Year 5 Excursion

On Friday the 20th of September year 5 students went on an excursion where they got to explore and see so many Saint Shrines and where they also learnt about different saints from different cultures. The year 5 students had a blast and it was a very great day!

2024 HSC Multimedia and Visual Arts Exhibition

The College hosted the 2024 HSC Multimedia and Visual Arts exhibition on Monday 2nd September. The gallery space was constantly filled with wonderful and appreciative audiences throughout the day and this was truly appreciated by the student artists.

We wish them all the best  in the upcoming HSC practical works examinations.

Sausage Sizzle

On Saturday 21 September MCHF ran the sausage sizzle at the Bunnings Lidcombe. It was a fantastic way for the community to get together to raise funds for the College. Throughout the day we had Sisters, staff, students and parents assisting with the cooking and serving of sausages and drinks to the customers. We also enjoyed the company of many families who popped in to support the cause and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

On Monday 23 September, we had another sausage sizzle at the College for the students to enjoy. We thank all those involved in donating, cooking, serving, purchasing or helping in any way. The sausage sizzles raised around $4000 that will go towards out Capital works. - Sr Margaret Ghosn

Year 1 visit the Sydney Zoo

Today, our Year 1 students along with their teachers went to Sydney Zoo. The students learnt about Australian animals, participated in a Connection to Land Aboriginal workshop and explored animals from Asia and Africa. It was a wonderful and exciting experience for our students who were extremely well behaved and engaged. This excursion links directly to the students' English programs as they have been learning about Australian animals and next term our students will be learning about Aboriginal dreamtime. Overall, it was a fantastic day at the zoo for all.

Lunchtimes in the Secondary Learning Centre

Earlier this term, we wrapped up our annual chess tournament. Staff and students from Years 7-12 were invited to compete for the title of chess champion in a knockout competition. Congratulations to Adam Saab (Year 9) who claimed bragging rights, after defeating several staff and students from varying grades. Thank you to Andrew Khoury (Year 8) for organising this event.

Meanwhile, our home-grown and international students took advantage of the new Meccano, games and Lego kits that were purchased as part of the ‘student wellbeing boost’.

Book Week in the Secondary Learning Centre

Children’s Book Week was celebrated nationally from August 17 -23. As part of their library lessons, students from Years 7-9 were given the opportunity to explore the CBCA award winning and notable books. You can view the lists here:

At lunch, the Learning Centre hosted a ‘Locked in the Library’ Escape Room Challenge. Students were invited to either work on their own or in pairs to solve riddles, crack the code, and find the hidden key to the mystery box. It took three lunchtimes for our winning duo, Margarita Boufarra and Gabriella Boustani (Year 8), to work out that Patronus (Harry Potter character) was hiding the key.

We had fun during this experience, even though it was challenging. It inspired us to think outside the box to find clues. We really enjoyed this and we look forward to many other opportunities.” (Margarita and Gabriella)
