Term 4 - Week 1
Welcome back to Term 4, a busy term though one where we have the chance to celebrate our success throughout the year.
On the 6th October 2023 the St Nicholas School community was rocked and fractured due to the passing of three students. Raphael, Evita and Philomena Smith (along with their grandfather Peter) who tragically lost their lives in a small aircraft accident.
Navigating this tragedy has and continues to be difficult. Many of us have drawn strength from being part of a wonderful school which has rallied around our students, staff and parents. At St Nicholas School we have also felt the love and support from our extended communities.
As staff returned last Monday from our mid semester break, we stopped and acknowledged the one year anniversary of Raphael, Evita, Philomena and Peter’s passing. Many of our students also recognised the anniversary of their friends passing in their class groups on Tuesday.
The one year anniversary is an opportunity to inform our school community of plans to permanently remember Raphael, Evita and Philomena Smith. A team of staff have come together with a budget and plan to rejuvenate the Garden Club Area of our school. Part of the renovation will include a plaque in honor of Raphael, Evita and Philomena.
I look forward to sharing updates as the term progresses.
As we continue to pray and think of the Smith family, particularly David and Elise, I remind all our families there is support available. If you believe support could assist you or your children, please do not hesitate in reaching out to me.
Have a great week.
