Mini Vinnies

Last term a select few Mini Vinnies students attended the annual St. Vincent de Paul Schools Conference held at Our Lady of Sion College in Box Hill. At this conference the students were tasked with working collaboratively with the attending secondary school students to brainstorm and plan events that would support the wider community. The students were able to choose between the four projects of the St. Vincent de Paul school program. These projects are:

  • Fundraising
  • Donation Drive
  • Community Outreach/Volunteering
  • Raise Awareness

It’s important that the students understand that supporting our community doesn’t just happen through major events and raising money. They can also support the community through outreach programs or volunteering, such as our visits to a local nursing home and raising awareness of issues, such as poverty or homelessness. This is something that our students have been working on since early term 2, where they have been tasked with creating puzzles for our junior students to complete teaching them about kindness.

This week the Mini Vinnies students shared their knowledge of kindness and how to be kind with our year 1/2 students. The year 1/2 students worked with our year 4 Mini Vinnies students to complete puzzles about the topic of kindness and how important it is in our world.

The year 1/2s and year 4 students worked exceptionally well together and enjoyed putting together the puzzles to reveal messages of kindness.
