Book Week
GNLC loves Book Week because GNLC loves reading! It was not just about the costumes, but it was a week-long festival celebrating a love of reading, our favourite books and authors and... well, the costume parades were a hoot!
The Primary students were lucky enough to have a visiting illustrator, Jess Racklyft, who worked with Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students. Every student left with six easy-to-recognise pictures of Australian animals.
Year 4 learnt how to write a choose-your-own-adventure story. All the stories were then copied and loaded into a Story Vending machine in the Primary Years Library. There have been queues at the machine every lunchtime since and we are lucky enough to have the machine until the end of term. Year 5 was given a short masterclass on writing a Comic Strip by Bernard Caleo.
Lunchtime activities in the library included a great big colouring tablecloth, making bookmarks and queuing up for the story vending machine. Mambourin practised their calligraphy and made bookmarks. On different days there were book parades for Year 3,
Mambourin and the rest of the Primary school so every day we could see our favourite books and authors running around the playground and wandering into the classrooms (and staff rooms).
Mambourin took reading to another level with reading time in Mother Tongue. They were able to offer students a choice of books read in languages including Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Afrikaans, German, Ukrainian, Te Reo Māori and Malayalam.
The Secondary Years dressed up on Thursday and competed in the Library Literary Quiz on Friday. The festival has left but the love of reading and books remains.

Secondary Years Division Athletics
On Thursday 22 August, selected Years 7-12 represented GNLC at the SSV Wyndham Division Track & Field Championships. Nine of our students placed 1st (some of those students were multiple 1st place winners), together with 1 relay team finishing in 1st place as well as multiple students finishing 2nd and 3rd as well.
Special mention to Charli B (U14), Tahnee H (U15), Holly G (U16) and Rita H (U17) who combined ran the U17 4x100m relay coming 1st, and breaking the Division record for a second year in a row.
Charli B, Holly G and Tahnee H also broke records in their individual events.
Congratulations and well done to all the students that represented the College on the day. 1st place finishes now progress to represent GNLC at the Western Metropolitan Secondary Track and Field Region Finals, to be held in Week 1, Term 4 on Wednesday 9 October at the Mooney Valley Athletics Centre.
