Faithful Service

Last week, I attended the ALWS Ambassadors Boot Camp for Lutheran educators. ALWS, part of the Lutheran Church of Australia, works with the Lutheran World Federation to provide international aid, focusing on dignity and sustainable solutions in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Their mission aligns with Micah 6:8—"Act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God."

The Boot Camp highlighted how our school can embody service to bring hope to others. The ALWS chairperson reminded us that "Lutheran schools are in the business of hope," emphasizing that service learning should be central to education. This approach shifts focus from self to serving others.

As Christians, we are called to trust, loyalty, and care for others, reflecting God's simple commands: love God and love your neighbour (Mark 12:30-31). At GNLC, we aim to prepare global citizens to live out Christ’s mission by following God's word, caring for those in need, and showing God's love as we faithfully serve others (James 1:27).

What a wonderful opportunity we have at GNLC to be good and faithful servants!

Year 11 Careers Day

On Tuesday 3 September, all Year 11 students had their annual careers excursion to Deakin University (Waurn Ponds) campus.

During the visit the students:

  • Had a general presentation on all things Deakin, along with quizzes and prizes
  • Had a campus tour of the wider facilities
  • Experienced the life of a Deakin University student by having lunch in the cafeteria and then participating in a range of immersion activities that included Education, Exercise & Health Science, Education, Engineering, Robotics & Virtual Reality.

The students then spent the final lesson of the day preparing for their post-Year 12 pathways and career planning. All students thoroughly enjoyed their experience with many now more motivated and more empowered with their range of options.
