Faithfulness: Following God’s Teachings and Honouring Our Bodies

As we reflect on the theme of faithfulness this month, we are reminded of the importance of faithfully following God’s teachings in every aspect of our lives. Faithfulness goes beyond mere loyalty; it is a commitment to living out the values and principles that God has set before us.

One of the ways we can demonstrate this faithfulness is by treating our bodies as temples, as we are reminded in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honour God with your bodies."

In alignment with this, we celebrated National Health and Physical Education (HPE) Day on Wednesday, 4 September, with activities running throughout the entire week, from Monday 2 to Friday 6 September. The theme of HPE Day, “Good for Children, Good for Schools, and Good for Communities”, was at the heart of all we did.

The aim of the day, and indeed the week, was to raise awareness and advocate for a greater focus on Health and Physical Education within our schools. This focus is critical, as Australian school children are among the least physically active in the world. To address this challenge, our students need to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to lead active and healthy lives.

Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including a Health and Physical Education quiz, Just Dance sessions, a “Challenge the Champ” competition, a goal-kicking contest, a dance masterclass, fun fitness videos, and a team run challenge. Primary Years teachers were encouraged to take their classes outside for 10 to 15 minutes of physical activity, and students also engaged in discussions about nutrition while enjoying a healthy snack during class time.

Additionally, we celebrated Father’s Day at GNLC on Friday 30 August, giving thanks for the fathers and father figures in our lives who have guided and supported us. We acknowledge the vital role they play, and we thank them for their faithful presence. It was wonderful to see so many dads’ on-site enjoying food, photos and time in the classrooms. The highlight for me was the Dancing Dad’s in 1F!
