Term 3 Information

On Sunday 1st September we had two senior teams compete in the FISAF National Aerobics Championships held in the Gold Coast. On a national level, our girls were wonderful ambassadors for Loreto, representing their teams, college and parents with pride.  All teams performed strongly in their respective divisions against a highly competitive field from interstate.

LC Amplify - Pre-Choregraphed Teams Years 7-12 Phase 2 – Ruby Simister, Georgia Mastrantuone, Harper Hamdorf, Zara Wucsko, Olivia Bellon, Teresa Caruso, Clementine Swaine Lailah Bryant, Tallulah Thompson and Maria Barbaro.

LC Runaway - Pre-Choregraphed Teams Years 7-9 Phase 1 – Isobel Mothersole, Chiara Savinetti, Milla O'Rourke, Lottie Allgrove, Ruby Kernahan, Isla Allgrove, Winnie Katsaros and Alice Frearson-Lea.

The girls should be very proud of their achievements throughout the year and their outstanding performances at the National Championships.

Touch Football Carnivals

Well done to all the Loreto teams who played in the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Catholic School Touch Football carnivals last week.

Ms Edwards has been teaching the sport in PE classes this term. It was great to see our teamwork, understanding and tactics develop over the course of the day. Several of our teams went undefeated throughout the carnival and it’s pleasing to see a number of students already registered for the weekly competition next term.

Special mention to Willow Koutrae who scored six tries in her team’s final match. Surely a school record! Willow took to the game like a duck to water, displaying agility, elusiveness and a burst of speed.

Many thanks to Ms Edwards, Ms Chan, Ms Porter, Ms Dottore and Ms Zappia for coaching the teams!

Netball Finals

Sunny afternoons, birds singing, flowers blooming, that smell of freshly cut grass… it can only mean one thing:

Netball finals have arrived!

Loreto had three junior school teams take the court in Eastern Districts Netball Association finals on Saturday with all three recording excellent wins.

The Loreto Year 6 Blue team is straight into the grand final in a fortnight’s time after a strong semifinal victory. Our shooters Milla and Emily were ruthlessly efficient in the goal circle while at the other end of the court Mia and Elsa-Marie picked up a number of intercepts. Midcourters Juliet, Matilda and Domenica worked tirelessly all game in a complete team display.

Special mention to Matilda who limped through the game with a sore ankle. Illness had left us with the bare minimum of 7 players, so Matilda had no hesitation in putting her hand up to help the team. She played a typically spirited game, demonstrating the power of mind over matter (several metres of ankle tape also helped).

In one of the earlier matches our Year 6 White team had finished in 4th place so were faced with an elimination final. Scores were level at half time and it’s fair to say that there were a few nerves creeping in on the sidelines. We needn’t have worried! The team clicked into gear after the half-time oranges, and they put together their best half of the season. We ran out winners by 7 and move through to next Saturday’s preliminary final. Fronting up immediately after this week’s school camp will be a challenge! Hopefully our Canberra accommodation has a netball court for training.

Alongside them our first-placed Year 5 Blue team had a strong 35-18 win and move straight into the grand final. The team has shown resilience and depth this season, winning matches even with several players out through injury, illness and aerobics competitions. Good luck to all teams in your finals campaigns!

Aerobics National Championship

Well done to all teams on their performances at the national championships on the Gold Coast. It was an incredible experience and a high standard competition. Well done on representing the school so well! Our finishing places were LC Disco: 11th place, LC Electric: 13th place and LC Groove: 8th place.

Many thanks to Ms Cobb who managed our teams at the event and thank you to all the coaches, students and parents for investing their time in the program.

Cheerful News

Well done to Year 3 Estelle Samuel whose team came 1st in both events at the Cheercon State Championships over the weekend. Estelle has been very busy training, even doing backflips in between drills at netball practice!

State Netball

Loreto Year 6 Alyssa Reed is away this week with the South Australian 12 years and under netball team.

The national championships are underway in Melbourne with all states fighting it out over six days and 14 rounds. Friday is the final day of the championship. With two rounds remaining South Australia is sitting in second place, narrowly behind Queensland.

Whether the result of shrewd scheduling or just coincidence, South Australia actually plays Queensland on Friday morning in the penultimate round. A game that could decide the championship! The teams had a tie against each other earlier in the week.

Good luck, Alyssa!

Soccer – undefeated season?

Good luck to our Year 3 Blue team who are on the verge of an undefeated season this winter heading into this afternoon’s final match. They finish their campaign away against St Aloysius. Well done to coach Daniel and the players on your brilliant season!

Last Friday was the local derby with the Loreto Blue and Gold teams facing off, the Blues emerging 3-1 victors after a high-standard match. Our Year 3/4 Golds have also won every game… except the two against Loreto!

springART Student Workshops – Years 7 and 8

Last week, all Year 7 and 8 students participated in springART Workshops, where they had the opportunity to engage in both art creation and audience participation by moving between the art studios and springART.

These workshops aimed to enhance students' observation drawing skills through exposure to artists' practices and hands-on practical sessions in which they responded to the paintings of the Australian artist Margaret Olley. Many of Olley’s paintings were inspired by the interiors of her home, which served as both her living space and studio. Throughout her residence, surfaces were decorated with an eclectic assortment of objects, bowls, fruit, and vibrant flowers. Her artwork honoured the beauty of everyday life. In tribute to Margaret Olley, a large still life was arranged in the art foyer gallery. Students used their phones as viewfinders to isolate compositions within this still life and created drawings using charcoal and chalk pastels.

A visit to springART offered a multifaceted educational experience to enhance critical thinking, aesthetic appreciation, and artistic growth. While reflecting on the exhibition, students justified their preferences and analysed the elements that make art visually compelling. Engaging with artworks that challenge preconceived notions of art broadened their understanding of diverse artistic expressions. In selecting an artwork for the springART Student Choice Award, students utilised critical evaluation skills to support their artistic preferences.

Performing Arts

The Junior School Music Showcase was a wonderful celebration of the students' musical achievements, filled with a wide variety of engaging performances. Highlights included beautiful vocal pieces like "Inanay," the fun and lively "You've Got a Friend in Me," and a powerful rendition of "This Is Me" by all students from ELC to Year 4. There were also impressive demonstrations of instrumental skills, from the intricate string and piano pieces to the energetic percussion and Boomwhacker performances, while the recorder demonstration brought back fond school memories for many. The students also delighted the audience with a nursery rhyme medley that explored the historical origins of well-known tunes, along with a song about the Australian states. With choir performances of "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon" and "Best Day of My Life," the evening showcased the students' talents, teamwork, and love of music. It was a joyful and memorable evening for everyone involved! Thanks to all teachers for their help, and to parents for their ongoing support of the Loreto music program.
