Senior School News Yr 5/6

Mr Tom Brophy (5/6B), Miss Carrie Kudelka (5/6K) & Miss Chelsea Perrin (5/6P)

What a wonderful term it has been! We've covered a wide range of topics in the classroom while staying incredibly busy rehearsing for our school production of Madagascar Junior. It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of the year.

After two terms of dedicated work on the production, we’re thrilled to finally share the finished show with family and friends. Watching the students grow from their first rehearsal to the final performance has been an absolute joy. It’s truly been a memorable experience, and while we’ll be sad when it's over, we are so proud of what they have accomplished.

In Mathematics, we've been exploring the concept of chance, focusing on probability. The students created engaging experiments using materials such as lollies, spinners, dice, and coins. They compared the expected probabilities with the actual outcomes, analyzing and reflecting on the differences. It’s been fascinating to watch them dive into these experiments with enthusiasm.

Our Writing sessions have centered on enhancing creative writing skills through techniques like 'planning,' 'show, don't tell,' 'sizzling starts,' 'tightening tension,' and crafting impactful endings. The progress in the students' writing has been remarkable, with improvements noticeable week after week.

Additionally, we’ve enjoyed some special time with the Preps during our buddy sessions. The Year 6 students took charge, organizing outdoor sports activities and creative indoor games. From Fruit Salad and Longest Footy Kick to a new game called PaddyWhackers, the fun was endless. It has been heartwarming to see our Year 5 and 6 students embrace their roles as mentors, guiding the younger students with such care and enthusiasm.

Until next term!
