Britton Shield Competition Update

Last week, we shared news about changes to the member schools participating in the Britton Shield competition, along with the exciting opportunity to invite additional schools to join the association starting in 2025.

As mentioned, this change was prompted by Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC), who are looking at different sporting options for their school next year. Consequently, this affects the last event of the year - the Britton Shield Cricket competition this Friday.

We’re excited for our boys to compete against Ipswich Junior Grammar School tomorrow and to take part in various skill and development sessions, which will keep them busy all day. It promises to be a fantastic day at Toombul Cricket Club!

We’ll keep you updated on the growth of this offering as we look ahead to 2025.

2024 Prep to Year 1 Swimming Exhibition Carnival: Celebrating Our Young Swimmers

The Prep to Year 1 Swimming Exhibition Carnival was an energetic display of skill and progress, with our youngest Clayfield College swimmers hitting the water to show how far they’ve come in 2024. Parents lined the poolside, eager to cheer on their children as they dove into a series of exciting events, including freestyle, backstroke, noodle races, mat races, and kicking competitions.

The air was filled with excitement as each young swimmer gave their best effort, proudly demonstrating the techniques and confidence they’ve developed throughout the year. Whether gliding through the freestyle, mastering backstroke, or having fun with noodles and mats, our students shone brightly. Each participant was rewarded with a participation ribbon, a symbol of their efforts.

With smiles all around, it was a heartwarming sight for both parents and teachers, who have watched these young swimmers make impressive strides in the water. Clayfield College Sport extends a big congratulations to all our students for their commitment and courage.

Dana and Olivia Solomon Excel in Tennis – Celebrating Success on State and National Stages

It's been a triumphant time for sisters Dana and Olivia Solomon as they reach new heights in their tennis development. Dana's recent state and national ranking placements are a significant achievement, with her now ranked 28th in Queensland and 148th in Australia for her age. These accomplishments have earned Dana an invitation to the notable “2024 Queensland State Masters,” scheduled for 19 to 22 December, where she’ll face off against Queensland’s top junior talent.

Battle of the Sands Success: A Team Victory

Recently, Dana and Olivia participated in the thrilling “Battle of the Sands” held at the Sunshine Coast Tennis Centre, a tournament that brought together elite young players from Brisbane Metro, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and South. The tournament spanned two days and featured four age categories, with Olivia competing in the U13 division and Dana representing the U15s. Both sisters travelled to the Sunshine Coast Recreational Precinct with their Metro team, fully prepared for a weekend of high-stakes competition.

The Solomon sisters’ team faced tough competition, especially against the Gold Coast team, their primary rival.

The matches were intense and came down to a narrow 9-point margin in the final tally of premiership points. Sunday’s round against Gold Coast was crucial, with Olivia’s U13s putting in strong performances but just missing victory. Meanwhile, Dana’s U15 team secured wins, with the U15s maintaining an undefeated record over both days.

Congratulations to both Dana and Olivia on their fantastic achievements and a special acknowledgment to Dana for her invitation to the 2024 Queensland State Masters. We look forward to seeing these talented players continue to excel and inspire.
