The Arts News

Mrs Karen Gordon - Director of Co-curricular Music / Coordinator of Strings

Mr Adrian Walker - Artistic Director - Creative and Performing Arts

The Countdown is on for LUX 24

LUX 24 will not only be a wonderful celebration of Visual Art, but also a showcase of our Creative Arts. Live performances on the night will include snippets of musical theatre, Chinese presentations, Spanish songs, dance and drama performances.

Language Students to perform at LUX 24!

A talented group of Spanish language students will showcase their skills at LUX 2024 with a special performance of "Un Año/One Year” by Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra and Mexican band Reik. This heartfelt song, filled with rhyme and repetition, delivers a powerful message that time and distance are no match for love and hope. Love will always be stronger. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity where language, culture, and art come together to celebrate the beauty of connection.

We are looking forward to our Year 8s, Finn and Luca, performing the Chinese song, Sorry My Chinese is Not So Good, by Transition Band, part of the Sing to Learn Chinese series! This song is special because it highlights the band members’ own journey in learning Mandarin - mistakes, challenges, and all. The lyrics capture the fun and sometimes tricky aspects of learning Chinese, especially how important it is to get the tones just right. Our Years 7 and 8 Chinese learners will perform the Seaweed Song and dance for us on the night too.

Performing Arts

Throughout the evening of LUX, the Blackbox Studio, will feature our performing artists. Students from Years 6 and 7, will perform scenes inspired by Roald Dahl’s novels. Year 9 Drama students will present their work, as seen at the Queensland Theatre’s ‘Scene Project. Our Year 11 Drama students will perform an absurdist piece – a contemporary adaption of ‘The Rhinoceros’, by Eugene Ionesco. Our Irish dancers will demonstrate their talent, along with dance troupe, who will entertain you throughout the night.

Jame the Saxophonist DJ!

Not only will our music and language students be entertaining you on the courtyard stage, but the evening will also conclude with Jame the Saxophonist DJ. Jame will be mixing popular songs deck, while serenading the audience with his uplifting jazz infused rhythms.
