Looking Ahead - Weeks 3 and 4

We’re thrilled to welcome you and your children back for another fantastic term! After a refreshing break, our students have returned with renewed energy and enthusiasm, ready to tackle the exciting weeks ahead. It’s wonderful to see how confident they have become in their daily routines, showing greater independence and a true sense of belonging in our special SEPS community.

This term promises to be filled with rich learning experiences. Your children will be learning new concepts but also consolidating the knowledge they have already gained. We take great joy in watching them thrive, discovering the wonders of learning, and developing new skills.

Numeracy

Our Prep students will learn about bundling in 10’s, which helps build a strong understanding of place value. Measurement will also be a focus, as students engage in hands-on activities to explore mass, duration, and length, developing their skills in comparing and estimating.

Additionally, they will practise counting on from the larger number, an important strategy for addition, and finding the difference to solve basic subtraction problems. These activities will enhance their number sense and problem-solving abilities, setting the stage for future mathematical success.

Literacy

Students will dive into the concept of the ‘magic e’, where a silent 'e' at the end of a word changes the vowel sound to a long one. It's an exciting spelling rule, and maybe you can ask your child to explain how it works! We'll also be focusing on using ‘because’ as a conjunction, helping students to extend their sentences and explain their thinking more clearly.

As the term progresses, we’ll move on to understanding the difference between questions and statements, enabling students to construct a variety of sentence types in their writing and conversation.

Science

Science this term has kicked off with a big bang, thanks to our most famous and exciting teachers, "Wilko" and "Safety Sue," who join us every Wednesday! The students can hardly wait to don their lab coats and dive into hands-on experiments that make learning a real adventure. This term, they will explore the five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, and sound.

Through fun and interactive lessons, students will learn how their senses help them understand and navigate the world around them. It’s going to be an exciting journey of discovery!
