Dear parents and guardians,

Welcome to Term 4. This term will be full of learning, transition and end of Level 6 activities.

Please remind your child to bring a charged laptop to school every day, ready for learning.

Scrapbooking

Towards the end of this term, the students will embark on their Primary Years Scrapbook. They will write a short piece about each year of their schooling, and they will include school photographs from each year. Students can create an album, a scrapbook or a digital album. Please sort through your albums with your child and print photos that they can bring to school. Albums and scrapbooks can be purchased at Officeworks, Big W and other department stores.

Graduation & Graduation PowerPoint

Graduation is Wednesday 11th of December. Students will come to school for activities in the morning, then go home to get changed and come back at 5:15p for photos and the ceremony. On the night we show a PowerPoint of the children through their school years. Stay tuned for family homework to create your PowerPoint at home next term.

Literacy

This fortnight we have studied the Australian bush ballad, Clancy of the Overflow. Our students have studied the vocabulary used by Banjo Paterson to create imagery. The students have modelled their own writing on the poem.

Maths

Our term began with a focus on number patterns and algebra. Students continue to work on their personal maths goals during WIN (What I Need), a 20-minute session held three times a week after recess. This dedicated time allows them to concentrate on their individual learning goals. We are so proud of their commitment to achieving these goals and look forward to seeing their progress. During the weekly lessons, students have been learning about recursive and function rules, focusing on how to determine a rule and use it to predict future patterns.

Here is an example you can work on at home with your child. See if they can determine the rule being applied. It's important to observe the relationship between the squares and circles to identify the rule. Once the rule is found, challenge your child to figure out what would happen if there were 20 or 87 squares. Good luck!

Inquiry

This term our Inquiry unit focusses on democracy, citizenship, government and voting.

Buddies

Our awesome Buddy Captains have planned some exciting activities for our fortnightly catch ups. This week we played fun team games including Golden Child, Hotdog tag and Islands.

Homework

If you would like your child to complete work at home, you can complete the following:

Reading - it is important that students read for 20 minutes, most nights.

Maths - there are revision sheets available in the Homework folder on Teams. Students are encouraged to complete the Problem of the Week in this newsletter or go to the Problem-Solving folder on Teams.
