Principals Report

Dear SEPS Families,

Welcome back to Term 4.

The term is off to a flying start. I had the pleasure of joining our Year 5 campers at Waratah Bay last week. It was a great camp and our students were excellent ambassadors for our school. They showed such enthusiasm and positive attitude during all activities and supported each other during the entire 3 days. Even when surfing and rock climbing seemed a bit overwhelming for some of them, they had a go and came away very proud of themselves. I would like to thank our wonderful Year 5 teachers for the huge amount of planning and preparation that went into such a successful camp and a very big thank you also to our parent helpers Jo, Nicole and Alex, who gave up time their time to assist us on camp. We could not do it without you and appreciate your support. I am sure everyone slept well over the weekend!

Planning for 2025

It is only Week 2 but it is that time of year when we start to prepare for 2025. Planning is well underway with Transition programs, Year 6 Graduation and assessment & reporting schedules all on the radar. This week it has been lovely meeting some of our new 2025 Foundation students and their families as we begin our Early Years Interviews. We have met some very capable little people who are definitely ready for big school. We look forward to working with them in coming weeks as they join us for our “Step Into SEPS” program. Please note November 29 in your diary. It is our final pupil free curriculum day for the year. This day will be used by staff to review data and prepare curriculum content for the beginning of Term 1.

Classes for 2025

In the next few weeks, we will be asking students for their friendship preferences as we begin to create grades for 2025. Students will be asked to nominate 5 people who are either good friends or who they work well with. At least one person from their list will be guaranteed to be in their class next year. Classes will be based on a variety of information however should you have any concerns regarding your child’s friendship choices, please email your requests by FRIDAY 8 NOVEMBER via sandringham.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Once classes are finalised it is near impossible to make changes. For this reason, requests cannot be considered after this date.  Please also note that I do not take requests for specific teachers. It is really important that we ensure that this is a stress-free process for our children. Remaining positive and supportive as adults will assist in supporting them to be positive and resilient as well. We will not be asking students for preferences for a few weeks so please wait a while before discussing this with them. We want to alleviate any added anxiety or chatter here at school.

Art Show

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Bi-Annual Art Show next week. Our Art teachers have put an enormous amount of work into preparing this event and we cannot wait to share the beautiful pieces that your children have created. A big thank you to Ms Van Etten and Ms Hemmings for bringing this to life and creating another opportunity for us to get together and celebrate the great work produced by our students.

Survey

You have hopefully seen a survey come out via Compass regarding this newsletter. We would really appreciate your input so that we can ensure that we are providing the most effective means of communication with our SEPS Community. They survey closes next Friday. We would love to hear your thoughts.

Have a wonderful fortnight ahead.
