Book Week Activities 2024
As a part of Book Week of 2024, the Library Leadership Team had a larger involvement in the planning and management of Book Week events and activities. We had the absolute pleasure of organising the Annual Spelling Bee, Blind Date with a Book, and our Magical Masquerade Dress Up Party (to name a few).
The Spelling Bee entailed a show down between the Senior and Junior Finalists listed below and ended with the ultimate success of Brandon Jiao!!
We'd like to give a big congratulations to the other finalists who participated in our Spelling Bee:
Junior Finalists - Sharman Patankar, Jeremy Kong, Adithya Ram
Senior Finalists - Renji Chan, Brandon Jiao, Olivia Thomas
We would also like to reflect on our amazing Blind Date with a Book event, which also extended into the College Captains' LIGHT Week, and had an amazing amount of participation from both students and staff! And we'd also like to give our absolute greatest thanks to our Library Monitors who diligently wrapped and made labels for all of our Blind Dates!
Following that, our Book Scavenger Hunt was a massive success as lots of keen students participated in our Book Search and won some magical prizes! This, of course, couldn't have been done without our amazing volunteers and library monitors!
Finally, the Library's Annual Dress Up Party was a roaring success, as we saw so many brilliant costumes and had lots of delicious food courtesy of the Library staff and English Faculty, as well as twinkling fairy lights for decoration (which the Library Leadership Team had the absolute pleasure of making!).
All in all, Book Week of 2024 was a resounding success and we had the absolute best time planning and managing it. We look forward to seeing you next year!!

Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion
Over the last two weeks, our Year 12 Legal Studies students visited the Supreme Court of Victoria in Melbourne to gain an insight into the operations of a real court. A highlight of the excursion was our question and answer session with retired Supreme Courts Justices, Justice David Harper and Justice Tim Ginnane. Students were encouraged to ask any and all questions! Students also had a tour of the Supreme Court Library where one class was lucky enough to be greeted and spoken to by Her Honour Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne Ferguson. Afterwards, students were able to sit in the public gallery to watch the closing statements of a murder trial and a bail application hearing. Students enjoyed the excursion immensely and will be able to take this unique opportunity with them into their studies as they head into their exam preparation. We are looking forward to taking our Year 11 Legal Studies students to the Melbourne Magistrates' Court in Term 4.

Cyber Security Year 10 Class Learning Update Term 3
This term, our class has been learning about data, networks, and cybersecurity. We had a great opportunity to participate in an IT incursion at school. Our teacher, Ms. Kommidi, organized the event and invited a guest speaker to help us learn about our IT infrastructure at Brentwood. Mr. Simon G, the IT manager of Brentwood Secondary College, gave an insightful presentation on network infrastructure and cybersecurity controls at our school.
Mr. Giang’s engaging and informative presentation on cybersecurity and data networks was the highlight of our learning experience. He expertly explained the intricacies of our school’s network architecture, including the software and hardware controls used to safeguard our data, such as firewalls, encryption, and access controls. We gained valuable insights into the complexities of data transmission and protection techniques, including secure protocols and threat prevention methods. Mr Giang’s expertise and enthusiasm inspired us to consider pursuing a career in networking. We appreciate how the presentation connected our classroom learning to our school’s network infrastructure, making the concepts more tangible and relevant
Furthermore, we had the opportunity to collaborate in teams to find network solutions for a real-life case study, applying theoretical concepts to practical scenarios as part of our learning.
Thank you to Mr Giang and Ms Kommidi for creating a learning experience that enhanced our understanding of cybersecurity and data networks, as well as potentially sparking our interest in this vital field!

Mobile phones are not to be used at the canteen as they are not allowed to be in use between the school hours of 8.45am and 3.05pm.
Students can make payment via an EFTPOS card or cash.
