Year 12 Key Dates and Information

All Year 12 students at school on Wednesday lunchtime received a sheet containing the key dates and information for their remaining time at the College. This information was emailed to parents/carers and Year 12 students on Thursday September 5th. Please check your emails and familiarise yourself with the details, dates and information.

There are a number of significant dates that students and parents/carers need to make sure they are aware of, with further details for the specific events (e.g. Year 12 Dinner and Graduation) to follow closer to the event.

Year 12 Transition from School/Boarding to Home and Work

At this time of the year, students can find themselves in varying states of emotional stability and/or instability or anywhere in between. These could be:

  • I’m so excited to be leaving school and cannot wait for the final day.
  • I have an idea of what I am doing next but am nervous about how everything will work.
  • I am unsure of what is next; I haven’t secured a job, where I am living and when I will see my friends again.

On Wednesday this week, when I visited each Year 12 group in the class area to complete a small survey, I spoke to the students about their varying states of emotional stability and instability. Students expressed varying levels of affirmation, either as a group or individually.

It was highlighted to the students that the feeling of anxiousness, nervousness and being unsure about leaving school and the sanctity of the College were okay and normal. This has been their home for the last two or three years and they are now leaving.

Students were encouraged to talk about it with each other, chat with a staff member or go to Student Services if they required assistance. Sometimes just talking it through helps.

It was explained to the students that they do not need to climb Mount Everest the day after they leave school. They need to take time to smell the roses and take advantage of opportunities and their pathway in life will become clearer.

Parents/carers are asked to please check in with their child, if they haven’t already, to see how they are going with this transition. Parents/carers may have similar feelings to those of their child, which is normal. If you need to discuss any concerns about your child and this transition, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Services Team at the College.

OLNA

The writing and reading components for this round at the College have now been completed. The numeracy component for all year groups will be undertaken per the attached schedule.

Students who are absent for a scheduled OLNA component will have an opportunity to sit the missed component within the OLNA window for this round, except for the writing component, which has now closed. Year 12 students will not have another opportunity after this OLNA Window. Year 10 and 11 Students will have further opportunities in 2025.
